best O2 monitor

Post by sierrax2 » Thu Dec 10, 2015 9:41 am

Hi, I need to find the best O2 monitor that is compatible w sleepy head. I'm very overwhelmed with all the options. I just want one that loads up to sleepy head and that I can monitor. My Dr is having me bring my computer in so he can review it and he asked me to do one with an O2 monitor. He told me he has now got three other patients using the program so he can help them trouble shoot problems because the dme are worthless. Thanks in advance for all your help.

The least expensive model that is compatible with SleepyHead is the CMS 50 D + (plus)...the plus part is very important.

For doing random overnight checks it probably is all someone needs. Now if someone is going to be doing more frequent overnight they might want to get one of the other models that mounts on the wrist and has a clock for syncing with SH clock.
The more features ...the more it costs but for around $100 one can get one that will pretty much do everything a person might want and will work with SH.

Once you decide which model you want you might shop around for the least expensive price (which usually means coming from China). I bought my CMS 50D+ at the above website because I wanted to have their support should I need it. EBay or AliExpress are possible sources for a little less expensive for the same model.

Why do you need a pulse-oximeter? Do you have lung or heart problems?

If you don't have lung or heart problems, you can get all the information you need from Sleepyhead to manage your CPAP therapy.

The CMS50F is also a great monitor and compatible with SleepyHead and available through Cooper Medical as well. It is wrist mounted with a fingertip sensor that is very comfortable at night.
Cooper Medical CMS50F $99
Cooper Medical CMS50+ $60
Neither requires a prescription.

However, if cost is not a issue (over $1,000), both the ResMed and the Respironics integrated SpO2 systems that become part of your machine are better in terms of accuracy. They are the same as used in the sleep lab during sleep studies. Unlike the CMS monitors, they require a prescription from your doc. Also, the data is automatically integrated into the SleepyHead reports without the need for a separate download. Since my CPAP is from Respironics, I have the Respironics version. If you want to go that route, PM me for the name of a DME that can supply the Respironics version.

I would strongly recommend against the CMS50D and go with one of the watch styles with finger sensors that are far more comfortable and easier to sleep with for extended periods. The wrist models are basically the same* and all made by the same company, as far as the important functionality as as long as SleepyHead can read from them but there is one very important difference - I'd make sure to get a model that can store several days worth of data, otherwise you must download the data from it every single day and if you don't and use it the next night you wipe the data off it.

For that reason I recommend this model over the CMS-50F:

http://www.lightinthebox.com/contec-oxi ... 08547.html

When you go to the site above and search you may find many different models. Don't let that confuse you, they are all basically the same but different packaging etc. Again, all you should care about is:

- Comfortable (all the wrist models have this)
- Work with sleepyhead
- Stores more than 24 hours of data

The model above meets all those criteria.

*I'm referring to the models made by Contec which are sold under about 50 different names and are the ones supported by Sleepyhead. Obviously the expensive models mentioned by JDS74 are a different animal.
