How do I make a full copy of my s9 elite sdcard on winxp?

Post by feeling_better » Tue Dec 08, 2015 5:24 pm

I vaguely recall there is a way to make a full copy of the sdcard, including the special format the s9 Elitie uses, on to another sdcard on windows xp. I might have even done this a few years ago. But now I do not even use the sdcard data on my computer, as I used to do daily a couple of years ago. [Now I know my view of the therapy I get is very much in line with the data I get when i take the card to the doc's office. once every 6 months or ]

Before I take my machine to the doc's office soon, I think I should copy the sdcard, just in case they would erase it, even after I tell them not to. That has happened in the past I am trying to follow up on if my machine has any tell tale sign of auto shutoff from the data.

There is nothing special about the format. Put it in your winxp, create a folder on the computer and copy the files from the sdcard to that folder.

If you end up with a deleted or new sdcard, put it in your winxp, goto the saved folder and copy them back to the sdcard.

Krelvin, Thank you. That answers half of my query. Now I need to find out how to format a new sd card. Now, I vaguely recall there may be a way of doing this in the machine??

Also your msg gives me hope that the card format is recognized in xp, or perhaps that is only after installing some of resmed sw...

All I ever did with my new SD cards is stick them in the machine and let the S9 do whatever it wants to do in terms of format. I didn't have to do anything special or tell the S9 to do anything special...it just did it.

I do know that the copy you make and store on your computer to be put back onto a blank SD card has to be a mirror image or the S9 will spit it out and you get the "invalid card, do you want to erase, yes or no" message. I did it once and I had one file not in the right order and the S9 complained.

Pugsy, Very useful info! Am I interpreting your msg correctly? : So if I take the current card in the machine out, and put a new card (unformatted, formatted, or an older s9 card) into the machine, the machine will auto copy all the data from the machine into the new card? Perhaps the machine only retains the last N days of detailed data in the machine? So, the newly put in card may have less number of days' data? Will some of the detailed data of the last 10 days be same as in the current card (which was originally in the machine) ?

If you put a blank SD card into the S9 the S9 will format the card and put the information that it has stored in its internal memory to the blank SD card.
Unfortunately what it stores in its internal memory is summary data only...and for a year I think.
It doesn't store any detailed data in its internal memory but what it does store is probably sufficient for most DME/insurance needs.
It stores AHI...leak and pressure data along with hours of use...essentially what you see with ResCan on the summary data page.

Detailed data files...for all the graphs and stuff...the SD card has to be in the S9 all night because those files aren't stored on the S9 and instead are written directly to the SD card.
Most DMEs/insurance don't care about those files...they only care about hours of use and maybe the AHI and pressure. If those are okay they won't go any further because there is no need to look at the detailed stuff.

If it were me I would just take a blank SD card (maybe an old ResMed card) and stick it in the machine and let it do its thing and take that card to the DME/doctor/whomever....unless you know that your doctor will actually look or want to look at the other detailed data.

Unless you are having problems or issues...it's doubtful anyone will even bother with the detailed data graphs.

Or....make a copy of the original card and put it on the blank SD card...and take that newly created SD card to the doctor...ResScan won't care if the file structure may not exactly match (like the S9 might care).
That way the detailed data is on the card if needed but the original SD card is still in my hot little hands at home where no one can mess with it.

Remember, my goal is to check if the machine stopped, and if there was major leaks before that event. So the card from the machine is the only way to get. I will see if I can make a copy before I take it to the docs office. [The doc's office much closer than my ex-dme from whom I originally got the machine. It is fully paid for and all, but medicare wont cover another machine until a couple of years from now] I am hoping the doc will see the machine stopped on its own and can lean on my ex-dme to fix/replace]. Yes it is a matter of who has more time to fight this Insurance companies and dme have made it their standard job to resist anything that they can get away wiith Oh well...

Thanks for your suggestions!

In that case what I could give them is a copy of the entire SD card and keep the old one for myself.
ResScan will be fine with the copy and your S9 may or may not be fine with it but since you are wanting all the detailed stuff....ResScan can do it.

The only potential problem is with the S9 and trying to use the "new" card if the files aren't exactly as the S9 expects them to be. And that's a maybe problem anyway. Maybe you can make a better mirror copy than I can but for some reason when I did it there were 2 files that were switched in the file order. I didn't do it but something in the copying process did and the S9 didn't like it.

Pugsy, I fully understand everything you say. Yes there are ways of making an exact image copy (all bytes) of sdcards on winxp. I was hoping, when I asked the orginal question, somebody here would know/remember it. I use my win os only a couple of times a year, and had since forgotten all those special tricks. [My current comptuer is a chromebook.] BTW, there may even be a thread here of a couple of years ago on exactly how to do it; but my searches did not show any.

Oh...actual steps?
I do it the old fashioned way....insert the first SD card (the one with all the data on it) into the computer.
Open the SD card to view all the files/folders.....highlight the files and folder(s) (this will get amy sub folders)....right click the mouse and choose "copy" from the menu.
Then remove that SD card and insert the new blank SD card (no need to do any special formatting to it) and then once it is inserted navigate to the blank SD card....and right click the mouse over the blank inside of the SD card and choose "paste".
That's all I would do when I copy card contents unless I have used the desktop for storage.
I have had to use the desktop for storage when I was short on SD cards and needing to use one of my good ones for something else.

I have never had to officially format any SD card when utilizing these steps above.

Will work on any Windows version from the oldest to the newest.
