I'll bet to some doctors it is news. How many do you figure routinely consider the possible SDB association in patients that present with metabolic syndrome?

About as many as those who still tell patients to lose weight to cure OSA, or tell them they can't (or don't need) use data... but then how many would ever see the forum and reconsider anything much about OSA, however well read they are on metabolic syndrome. It can take generations for some to change (get informed).

Yes, I should have said it "would be news" to many doctors even though, as you said, the study was published in 2009.

I agree. Interesting.

What are some of the things you find the most interesting about it, Janknitz?

The inflamation part for me. The rest I was aware of.

JNK, I knew this information, but sometimes I feel like I'm talking off the top of my head. I hadn't seen this particular study despite the publication date.

I posted it hoping people here might find this useful to open discussions with their health care providers, or to think twice when they think that they "caused" their OSA by "allowing" themselves to gain weight or believing that "all" they have to do to get off CPAP is lose weight. As long as the metabolic issues are unaddressed, it's an uphill battle.

Thanks for the post, I forget everything I learned yesterday even if I did read it somewhere else but as said the inflamatory part is most interesting to me. This is obvious a credible organization and a very valid study. thanks.

I'm glad you posted it. Medical science does not yet excel at addressing very many questions involving causation, in my opinion.

Thanks for explaining your thoughts. I learned more from your explanation than I did from the study. And I agree with the importance of not oversimplifying and not blaming victims of complicated health problems.

Always enjoy your posts.
