SCAM ALERT: Ryan Taylor Bipaps on Craigslist

Post by joeloren » Sun Dec 06, 2015 6:18 am

I got scammed by a person named Ryan Taylor, selling Bipap machines on Craigslist. I want to post the information so that no one else gets scammed by this guy. His name is Ryan Taylor and he is supposedly selling an inventory liquidation of Cpap and Bipap machines. The ad was posted on Craigslist as recently as a week ago, but I have flagged it. He provided a reference to Secondwind, and Secondwind verified to me that they had bought machines from him previously. That reference is the only reason that I went ahead with the "purchase". Ryan Taylor never shipped the Bipap machines, and won't answer emails or phone calls obviously.
The Craigslist ad he is using is titled "BIPAPS & CPAPS (Brand New)" and it is on York , PA Craigslist. The scammer's phone number is 202-717-9617 and his email is ryantaylorisblessed@gmail.com. He operates his scam out of the Washington DC (Suitland, MD) area and claims to be a US Navy veteran.
He took my money, cashed my check, and never shipped anything. I don't expect to get a penny of my money back from this piece of trash, but I want to make sure he doesn't get any more money from anyone else.

Sincerely,
Joel Oren

go to spokeo dot com Put in his phone number and for 95 cents you will get his address, alternate emails, quite a bit of info, might be enough to track him down then send buba.

Hope this helps,

buba

New people to the forum who sell machines usually wonder why we are so rough on them... often they respond by being very petulant and offended, sometimes with blue language. We tell them over and over to show or provide pictures of the tags and surfaces of the machines, pictures of the LCD screens with a history of the total hours used, some backstory, references, shipping if free or not, smoking environment. etc. etc. The above case is a testament to why we stick together and watch each others backs.

Use Paypal if possible folks, unless it's Grayghost4, STLmark or Grandpap, longtime trusted members. Paypal isn't perfect but it's better than the alternative as this sad case demonstrated. I hope that creep who's ripping people off gets thrown in the slammer.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Actually quite foolish to send a check before shipment. COD perhaps. PayPal works and will protect you in many cases.

Interesting that your first and only post is about how you got scammed on Craigslist something that most would recommend doing in person only to validate what you are buying and getting.

That sounds like it might be the same person that scammed me a year ago. He had just joined cpaptalk.com and had a story about not sleeping well. I sold a cpap to a him (DC NATE) in the DC area, paid by Paypal send money to friend, (there is no recourse). A month later he wanted to return the unit, because he was not using it ... he had probably already sold it to Secondwind, and asked if I would advance the money to him the same way he paid. Foolish me I did it and never received the returned unit, and never heard from him again.

Did you ever have a verbal conversation with him at that number.... it is a text only number.
Many of the craigslist scammers use text only number because they are not in the US, or want to hide behind a cloaked indenty. They work with text only phones and gmail email addresses and request wire transfers.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Ryan Taylor also uses a voice phone, at 202-422-9783. I already have his address where I sent the check, and I am going to write to Carriage Hill Apartments in Suitland MD and tell them that Ryan Taylor is running a criminal scheme out of his apartment. They may evict him, if the managers have any sense. I am not going to post his address here. He might rip off somebody else and get his legs broken, and I don't want the police to come looking for me. viewtopic/t109272/posting.php?mode=repl ... 0f30111667# My goal is to destroy his scheme and prevent him from taking any more money.

Overall, I am philosophical about these things. The internet has brought great opportunities to me, and occasionally a scam. The opportunities and bargains outweigh the scams and other downsides, by a massive factor. I check references and protect myself as best I can. I never risk more than I can afford to lose without hardship, and the truth is, the great majority of people ARE honest. I Roll with the punches, but that doesn't mean I can't punch back (when the person deserves it).

Since you have all that info about him ... you should contact the police.
I had a problem with an ebay purchase about 10 years ago and contacted my local police ... they followed you on it and the perpetrator was contacted by the police and informed that they would be going to be arrested and charge with fraud ... they refunded my money very quickly .

Ebay is about as law abiding (read that "anal") as Amazon.
Try Craigs List.

An old post but it's great that it pops up every so often... everybody who buys machines privately (for backup or whatever) needs to read it.

Actually, it's not against the law to sell your used medical equipment. It is simply Ebay's policy not to offer such things in the past, although they (and Amazon) appear to have recently changed their policy.
