OT - Win10 and SleepyHead

Post by andycole » Fri Dec 04, 2015 8:34 pm

I bought a new desktop this week with WIN10 already installed. Downloaded SleepyHead and, with a little tweaking, have it working like a charm. Tweaking was really not necessary as I found out later. Just me fat-fingering something.
OH, if you get a "select folder" message from SleepyHead, it could be that your machine is not reading the SD card. That was one of the tweaks I had to do - new machine port was not perfectly aligned - after plugging it in several times, everything began to work. And don't forget to LOCK the SD card before you insert it!!!

I got Win10 too and I hate it after coming from XP bypassing all the other MS _____. I can't think of anything civil to call them so I bite my tongue. Hope you like it better than I do.

My damaged laptop is WIN8.1 (was Win10 for about 2 hrs) and my now defunct tower was XP. I have installed a bunch of shortcuts on my Win10 machine since I can't find a lot of things easily. And I hate Edge - shortcutted to IE11.

I managed to remove most of that advertising checkerboard thing we see on start up. Tried to remove Edge but can't -- its integrated. Assassinated Cortana, though. Did you read that astounding user agreement where we agree to let MS have the entire contents of our computers whenever they want? We forfeit all rights to privacy. If you haven't, you should. It will make your stomach churn.

Just be thankful, you have done your part to correct global warming, soon we will have carbon free energy, for all.

My main computers will keep running Win 7, until Android takes over the world, I now do 80% of my computing on my Samsung Note Pro 12.2 inch Android, it gets closer everyday, and Windows gets worse, soon the lines will cross. Jim

Then you could 100% on Linux ... unless the 20% is games .

Quicken, Office Real version, War Sim's, Android Quicken is a joke... too hard to navigate Excel in android, and I'd miss my two 24 inch monitors, and 25 TB of USB 3.0 storage, due to the processor it's 3 times faster.

Good points the Android uses 1/8th the power, and I use it in the recliner. I can even send the screen to the big tv. But my eyes are so bad I can't read the text from across the room. I'm wanting a 18 in tablet like this note but they don't seem interested in making a large one with all the needed ports and more battery and processor. I'd think there was a market for high quality.

This is my second Samsung Tablet, I got the 10.1 inch also, was very happy, but when you can get 2 more inches, you just can't resist. Jim

I hear Android is going to team up with Chrome, that will probably be a fail.

The inches must be a guy thing...only a guy would come up with a name for a 2 X 4 or whatever size piece of lumbar...that is actually short of the 2 inches by 4 inches all the way around. I still can't get the logic in how they distinguish board sizes...my thoughts are call it what it is or make it what they call it.
This is on my mind today because I had to go buy a piece of lumbar last night for a project here at home.

Anyway...there is the new IPad Pro which is larger screen for you...of course it is super expensive and pretty much cost prohibitive for most people BUT the up side is that you may find that those who make the Android tablets may come up with a larger tablet to compete with the IPad Pro in the not so far future. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to have an Android tablet sometime next year with a 13 to 15 inch screen come on the market.

blownaway - right click on your desktop to create shortcut and browse to C: drive. Find IEXPLOXE.EXE and select it. That will put you on IE11. That was one of the first shortcuts I installed on new machine. Also did EXCEL and WORD since I use my machines for work. Several third-party pieces also, especially SleepyHead. Now I just have to get used to a normal keyboard again - LOL. When they finally return my laptop, need to buy backup drives for both machines. Problem on laptop is a known issue. After dropping it off, I finally thought to check the web, and there was the answer - revert to the original screen driver. Printed it and dropped it off at store and pissed that they haven't done it yet. Could have done it myself if I had checked first.
