Somnapure as a Sleep Aid
I have come across a nutritional product called Somnapure that is supposedly flying off the shelves of all the major pharmacies and vitamin shops. Has anyone heard of or used this product? Somnapure is supposed to help with insomnia and other problems getting to sleep and/or staying asleep.
It takes me 4 to 6 hours to get to sleep with an old, worn-out CPAP machine, with a new machine on order. In addition, I wake up a lot during sleep and am exhausted even when I get up. I hope the new machine helps with that.

Re: Somnapure as a Sleep Aid? Has Anyone Tried it?
It includes the ingredients
Melatonin -A naturally occurring compound that is secreted in the brain, melatonin has long been used to treat a number of ailments, including circadian rhythm disorders, headaches, mood disorder, and even cancer.
L-Theanine -Commonly found in green tea, Theanine has been shown to help reduce stress levels as well as produce a calm and soothing effect. However, there has been no research to confirm these findings.
Valerian Root Extract -Valerian root has long been used to treat insomnia, and some have claimed it is a miracle drug. You can find valerian root in many different forms, including sprays, elixirs, even brownies. This is the primary ingredient in Somnapure.
Hops -Hops are actually the primary stabilizing agent in beer, but have also been shown to have the same effects as Valerian root.
Somnapure also includes Passion flower, Lemon Balm, and Chamomile Flower.

Re: Somnapure as a Sleep Aid? Has Anyone Tried it?
I found Somnapure at Walgreen's and tried it last night. I took 2 capsules and stayed up for an hour after taking it. I got to sleep very quickly with CPAP and 18 hours of sleep later (with 2 or 3 bathroom breaks and feeding the cat), I got up pretty rested, much better than usual. It has taken me as long as 4-6 hours to get to sleep using CPAP in the past, so this was a big improvement for me, and I really needed the rest, and it WAS a Saturday. I think I will cut down to 1 capsule tonight.
Even though it is on over the counter product, I would recommend anyone who is taking prescription meds check with their dr., who of course may not be familiar with the herbal ingredients. According to online reviews, not everyone gets as good a night's sleep as I did.
I have lots of aches and pains--knees, low back, and general all over pain from fibromyalgia, so getting and staying asleep is hard for me.

Re: Somnapure as a Sleep Aid
Second night on Sonmapure, I took one capsule. I was sleepy when I took it. An hour later, I was more awake, but went to bed. I didn't get to sleep for 4-5 hours, then didn't stay asleep. So, my experience so far proves nothing except that when you're REALLY, REALLY tired, 2 capsules may give you a long, long night's sleep.

Are they able to be cut in half? If so try a full one and half of one and see how that works for youMarylandCPAPer wrote:Second night on Sonmapure, I took one capsule. I was sleepy when I took it. So did you just stay lying in bed for the 4-5 hours you could not sleep, or did you get up, go into another room until you were tired again and start over?MarylandCPAPer wrote:I didn't get to sleep for 4-5 hours, then didn't stay asleep.

Re: Somnapure as a Sleep Aid
I stayed in bed attached to CPAP. Even though I wasn't sleeping, laying down relieves low back and other pain. I feel like I breathe better with the CPAP after taking Somnapure.Krelvin wrote:So did you just stay lying in bed for the 4-5 hours you could not sleep, or did you get up, go into another room until you were tired again and start over?MarylandCPAPer wrote:I didn't get to sleep for 4-5 hours, then didn't stay asleep.
I just got a new A10 July 1st and had been having trouble feeling like I wasn't getting enough air when starting out at 10.6,to which I changed the lower end of my CPAP range. With the Somnapure. I didn't feel like I wasn't getting enough air.
I should note that when I got up, about 12 hours after taking Somnapure, I was able to function pretty well, probably better than normal, and wasn't groggy or tired.

Re: Somnapure as a Sleep Aid
Hmm, if I don't fall asleep within 30-40 mins, I get up, go into the other room until tired. Saying hooked up not sleeping just causes tossing and turning, frustration and makes recorded data pretty much useless since the machine doesn't know you are not sleeping. This conditions the body to know it its time sleep and is a part of good sleep hygiene.
I can understand the pain part, perhaps you can work out a way to not keep laying down when not sleeping.

Re: Somnapure as a Sleep Aid
I never fall asleep within 30-40 minutes. It takes a long time to find a comfortable sleeping position, for me, due to low back and other pain. In general, if I feel frustrated at not sleeping, I will get up and do something until tired enough to go back to sleep.Krelvin wrote:Hmm, if I don't fall asleep within 30-40 mins, I get up, go into the other room until tired. I was taking another product called Amen Solutions GABA Calming Support, a supplement that had been "prescribed" by a psychiatrist years ago based on results of blood and saliva tests. I ran out on Friday and decided to give Somnapure a try. I'm going to stick with Somnapure for a while longer and see how it goes. I wasn't getting to sleep very fast or sleeping very soundly with the Amen Solutions product anyway, but without it or some sleep aid, I knew I would get no sleep.

sure they can, use a knife, take half.MarylandCPAPer wrote:They are capsules, so can't be cut in half. Thanks for the idea, though.
there's even been discussions here of people taking psychiatric meds (and others), opening them up, and counting the little bits inside to taper off dosages.

There are 7 herbal ingredients. I can see cutting capsules that are of just one ingredient or medicine, but wouldn't cutting the capsule likely give an unpredictable dosage of the combination?palerider wrote:sure they can, use a knife, take half.MarylandCPAPer wrote:They are capsules, so can't be cut in half. they're likely mixed pretty well in a powder, otherwise the capsules wouldn't fill well...MarylandCPAPer wrote:There are 7 herbal ingredients. Re: Somnapure as a Sleep Aid
In looking for reviews of Somnapure before I took it, I found the following link that reviews Somnapure and lists some other herbal sleep aids. Somnapure wasn't rated the "best." The "best" for any individual will be the one that works for them. However, there are some I never heard of.
https://www.consumerhealthdigest.com/sl ... apure.html
I found Somnapure at Walgreens on sale for about $13 for 30 capsules. Somnapure popped up somewhere on the Internet with a free offer a month or two ago. The problem with the free offer is that they autoship and bill your credit card after 14 days, barely enough time to try the product and cancel, in my experience. Many of the complaints online are with the autoship program. However, Somnapure is supposed to be readily available in major pharmacies and vitamin stores.

Re: Somnapure as a Sleep Aid
6 nights now using Somnapure. It turns out it is a tablet, not a capsule, so I have been using 1.5 tablets per night, as suggested. I get to sleep pretty quickly. The last 2 days, I have had bizarre dreams. i think I am cutting down to one tablet per night. The hours I am awake, I have been pretty alert. This is working better for me than anything I've tried. YMMV.
