Sleepyhead- what do these numbers mean?

In Sleepyhead under the events tabs, it lists the individual events with numbers in parenthesis after each one. What are those numbers for?

Describes the events that would be shown as marks in the graphs area under Events

The number in () is supposed to indicate the length.

With ResMed machines it's event duration in seconds because the ResMed machines actually record event duration and it's also available on ResScan.

With Respironics machines it's not exactly event duration because Respironics machines don't actually report event duration.
Instead it is some sort of marker. It's real close to even duration though.
Remember apnea events need to be 10 seconds in duration to earn a flag and often we see single digits in the parentheses on SH and they can't be 9 seconds or 8 seconds. They are still events though and most likely they are very short and barely meet the 10 second duration requirement. These would be still flagged on Encore reports because it is the machine that does the flagging...it's not SH saying something lasted 9 seconds and giving it a flag. The 9 isn't exactly 9 seconds. It's going to be real close though and from my past manual counting it's been usually within 2 to 4 seconds.
It's close enough though...if you see a single digit in parentheses then the event probably was 10 to 12 seconds in duration and if it is 45 ...it was a long one whether it was 42 or 47.

It's real close but it isn't as exact as ResMed's are.

not on a respironics.... the numbers are aren't the length, but they do tend to be somewhat similar.

on a resmed, they are the length.

Thanks, I thought they indicated the length of the events but it was hard to tell and your explanation makes sense because they didn't exactly align with the timestamps on the graphs. The difference was enough to make me wonder if they meant something else.

In Encore reports there used to be (and I think there still is) a single computation for "time in apnea". So even though we don't get individual event duration there must be something in there that allows that "time in apnea" computation to be reported.
I am thinking it is these "markers" that Mark has mentioned and used in SleepyHead. I think that is why these markers are so close to event duration.

If the end result is off by a few seconds over the night...it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

But the "marker" numbers are probably close enough to event duration if someone wants to think of them like that...it doesn't hurt anything. I think I manually counted 100 of those back when SH was new and I never saw one more then 4 seconds off.
It's kinda hard to count because if you zoom in close enough to count seconds then you lose the starting and ending point of whatever reduction you are looking at. It's close enough for government work though. If you see a 60 in parentheses...that's a might long whatever it is whether it's really 58 or 64 seconds.

there's an experimental feature in the 098-1 version that syncs respironics markers to the apnea, and fixes the numbers.

it's on the cpap preferences page.

You know I have seen that new feature. I need to use my 760 I guess and compare what Encore says and what SH says and see if I am correct in what I think those markers are.
Or maybe I still have my old data from last July still on that SD card to try. I will try to dig out that machine later and see what I can find out.
Guess first thing is go check to make sure Encore still shows "time in apnea" It's on the last page of the reports and I haven't look at that page in so long I don't remember if it is still there or not.

Edit: will need to abort that experiment. These new versions of Encore no longer report "time in apnea"...neither my Basic or my Pro version. I have no idea when that was lost.
