swollen tongue

Post by Debbiesue » Sun Feb 22, 2015 11:10 am

I started using the full face mask CPAP about 8 months ago. In the past 2 weeks, I have woken up with a severely swollen tongue on one side and have gone to the hospital. They thought it was an allergic reaction to something but they aren't sure. Each time I wake, the tongue is swollen on the opposite side. Has anyone else had this problem? Really need some answers as I am scared to go to sleep now.

Doubt that its the CPAP or mask...keep pursuing a medical reason.

Are you mouth breathing? Is your mouth really really dry?

I find that when I have any WTF? moments with my mouth being sore, a few rounds of Listerine (even diluted) seems to help. Maybe you have a couple of teeth that have issues with fillings or sharp spots. Maybe you've been working your mouth as you sleep, and nipped your tongue. I tend to start simplest scenario, because I REALLY HATE trying to get in to see a doc or dentist.

Please sign up for a userid on the system and fill in your equipment on your profile. There's a link in my signature line at the bottom of this post.

I doubt it has any relation, but clean all your equipment really well. If you're using something like dish soap, change to a different brand or type.

Change the air filters and make sure there's nothing near the air inlet to the CPAP machine that might be causing an allergic reaction.
