runny nose, but still need to use my machine

Post by footballgirl13 » Sat Feb 21, 2015 12:40 am

My nose is running like crazy. I took claritin this morning due to my constant sneezing. Then I got really stuffed up and couldn't breath at all. So I took Sudafed. Then I was open. Then I was back again to my eyes watering like nutzo and drip, drip, drip, dripping nose. I mean dripping in front - not post nasal drip in the back of my throat. I'm beginning to think I'm allergic to dog hair - and I do sleep with a dog in my bed.
Can someone help me with this nose dripping thing. Tuesday night I went to bed and decided NOT to use my CPAP since my nose was going back and forth with dripping excessively and not being able to breathe. I've tried using the CPAP when my nose is plugged up and it is very difficult to breathe with the CPAP on. When I woke up Wednesday morning I was fine. But within 5 hours after waking up I noticed a change. I was really tired.
I really don't want to NOT use my Bipap machine tonight due to my nose dripping. I really don't want to NOT use my machine since I can tell a difference the next day in my energy. Not sure what to do.

I forgot to add this important note: My doctor gave me a medication for asthma to help me with my sinuses. It is called Singulair (montelukast). I think I took this briefly around 2003, but I didn't need it very long. I'm hoping this medication helps. I am going to get sinus X-Rays on Monday at 8am. I was told that I can't go to an ENT until they send me to an X ray due to Medi-Cal rules. So hopefully in 3-4 weeks I can get those results of the X Ray. I read that this medication does not act fast which is fine with me. I just want it to work even if it does take 4 weeks.

Machine used as of tonight: PR System One BiPap Pro DS660 with heated humidifier

Have you tried turning your humidity setting down?

Try an OTC nasal rinse like NeilMed before bed.

What is your humidifier setting?
Are you using the heated hose or not?

Make sure the ENT tests you for allergies. Let him know upfront about the dog.

Use the machine! If you drip in the mask, wash it the next morning. I have used mine through the worst colds - yeah, the mask is nasty the next morning but I feel decent.

What are your pressure settings?
