Quick help please on new bipap

Post by araris » Tue Feb 17, 2015 8:49 pm

I'm getting ready for bed and I put the bipap on and on the inhale pressure it is cutting off before I finish taking a full breath. Is this normal and what setting do I adjust to fix it?

I breathe deeply when I sleep and the inhale is cutting off way before I get to the exhale. if that makes sense.

I THINK that was the A-flex setting that will change timing a bit. Or it seemed to.

Be warned: I'm going by what your info shows...the Respironics 60 series machine. If you've got something else, you need to update to get accurate advice.

The timing should auto adjust to your breathing. Check the cycle setting and see off it's set med. You can also check the ti max setting

Those settings are all in the clinician menu.
And there for a resmed bilevel. Not sure which you have

Which bilevel machine brand and model did you get?
Which mode are you attempting to use and at what settings currently?

If it is Respironics it won't have the same settings available ( like Ti max because that's on ResMed's).

If you have the PRS 1 960 like I do, I had the same problem in the beginning. I would force it to breathe with me for a minute and it would "learn" what I wanted it to do.
Now after six months I find myself checking the exhaust ports on my mask to be sure it's on, especially if I wake up in the middle of the night.
If you update your profile with your current equipment,I am sure you will get more specific, detailed information.

I don't think this is the 960...I think maybe the 660 or the 760.

you may not breath as deeply or slowly when asleep. but, there's no adjustment to change the TiTime on the prs1 bipaps.

Rise time adjustment will affect inhale and exhale timing and is available for changing on the PR S1 BiPaps if BiFlex is disabled.
I can't ever remember which setting to make faster or slower response so I just tell people to try all the rise time settings to see which one feels the best.
Changing BiFlex setting is also something that could be tried.

Thanks for the advice all I went to bed because I have to up by 5:20ish.

I switched back to my SO560 around midnight because I wasn't able to fall asleep with the machine on. I'm not giving up yet on the machine, but I don't think I'll be trying it again until the weekend.

I have the System One 660. I'll play with settings tonight and see if something feels better to me. I know that it will take getting used to, I just didn't like taking breaths and not even being close to finishing them before the machine dropped back down to 8.

currently, I have the machine set at ipap =11 and epap =8.

should I bump up the epap to 9. I can tolerate a pressure of nine better than my prescription of 10, but I still get some gas. the reason I bumped it up to 11 is because I have gained some weight.

I might bump pressure of Ipap back down to 10 for a bit as well so till I get used to machine.

Again thanks for the responses, this board and its members have been great.
