Can somebody explain Live Chat these days?

Post by kteague » Tue Feb 17, 2015 3:52 am

I have not stopped in chat lately because I didn't think it was working. I kept seeing guest or unknown user names show up and stay there. Can I tell at a glance if anyone is really there without opening chat? Is the scroll over pop up any reflection of who is in chat?

More history than today. Several years ago Chat frequently had several people on it sometimes. A few complained that Chat frequently logged them off automatically. The techs, (FYI: they are in Australia) took it to heart, and tried to fix it. They also took the sounds out of Chat. The door opening and closing and the Doink of someone inputting a line. Chat does not automatically log people out anymore. Because of the lack of sounds, Chat is much harder to use. That is, used to be, people would log in, if no one was there, the individual could go off and surf somewhere until the Live Chat sounds told them they had company.

Our forum sponsor decided they did not want to pay the techs a bunch of money to keep working on Live Chat. No one seems to feel that returning sound to Live Chat is of much importance. Surely the sponsor, cpap.com owners do not want to spend more money on techs changing Live Chat again. It is possible that some folks complained that someone was rude to them on Live Chat, and our sponsor did not intend the forum to be a bad experience. I know that some came to Live Chat did not grasp the concept of several lines of conversation going on at the same time, and did not type fast enough to feel they were being allowed to participate.

In any case, most questions should be placed on the forum, to get the advice of several people. Rather than the few on the Live Chat.

In my opinion, Chat was killed by a lack of a Doink sound.

I'm surprised they still have it as an option. Lost souls go there on a regular basis and think there are people actually watching.

Example:

Code: Select all

06:24:37 Guest-898086b hello anyone
06:25:02 Guest-898086b i just came from a sleep clinic and I don't remember sleeping at all.... is this possible
06:25:44 Guest-898086b is it possible to sleep and wake without realizing you fell asleep at all???
06:26:53 Guest-898086b is anyone receiving my message???
06:27:37 Guest-898086b hello....
06:28:03 Guest-898086b can anyone see my chat
I remember using it an a regular basis 8 years ago..

I believe this is what PailRider was refereing to .. in the comment at the bottom of the post :

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=103504&view=unread#p973404

or you can also install a chat client like "Pidgin" : http://pidgin.im/

and use that to chat in many different chatting formats, aol, msn, yahoo, etc.

if you join the chat with the first link , .... you can get instruction to use Pidgin there

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

if you just want to use irc, I've heard some good things about hexchat: https://hexchat.github.io/ it's free, and supposed to be nice, though I haven't used it myself.
