All during the Michigan winter I keep waking up after 1 to 4 hours of using my cpap due to too much water being in the mask. I'm going to ask my doctor to prescribe me a heated hose as I've read on here that should take care of the problem. Is it OK to use a non heated hose with my unit during the summer months? Also, how do you clean a heated hose as they say not to submerge the heated head end in water. I currently clean my regular hose by putting hot, soapy water in the hose, putting both ends together with a coupler, swishing the water through the hose, and then thoroughly rinsing. Can I still do this with a heated hose?
By the way, I will get either an upgraded PR System one 60 Series or the upgrade kit that I can install myself:

Re: Heated Hose Questions
The heated hose upgrade kit is only for 60 series. You can use whatever hose your little heart desires, if your machine can use the heated style. The plain hose just slides on, either way.
I run the hose up straight from the unit, then down to my face. It helps unless surrounding air is cold. Then i get splashed.

Re: Heated Hose Questions
your humidifier is set too high or your thermostat in your house is set too high try turning down the thermostat or your humidifier or both and see what happens I have a special system for my machine called the hibernite rain control system and you can find this system on cpap.com and yes it does require a prescription why I don't know. but I think its stupid. I also bought a toggle switch to hook up to it so I can turn the heated tube off or on. I can use the same heaed tube like a regular hose and not use the heat option which I like druing the winter months. but anyway good luck to you

Re: Heated Hose Questions
Is your current machine a model 550 (that's what you are showing in your profile)? If so adding the upgrade kit won't work with the 50 series machine.
You would need a model 560 to make use of the upgrade kit.
Yes, you can use a non heated hose on a heated hose capable machine if you wish. No need to do anything special.
I have a 60 series machine and the heated hose and in the summer I used a non heated hose when I went camping. The non heated hoses will still attach to the humidifier just like they always did.
Here's the 60 series humidifier manual.

Page 11 addresses the cleaning instructions for the heated hose.
If you currently have a 50 series machine you can't convert it to the integrated heated hose.
You would need to get a 60 series blower and a 60 series humidifier to use the PR S1 heated hose.
There are stand alone heated hoses that can be used with the 50 series machines...the Aussie heated hose or the Hybernite 2300 heated hose.

Re: Heated Hose Questions
I just looked on the bottom of my machine and I use the 560 series Autopap and the 260 series heated humidifier.
I have my machine set on classic mode for humidity. Usually 2 is just right for the warmer months. For the transitional months and early winter I set it at 3. Once January and February come around I have to set the machine's humidity at level 4. Level 4 produces quite a bit of condensation in the mask. If I set it at level 3 during January and February I get too dried out, so 3 is too little and 4 is too much humidity. I have a cover on my long hose. Air temperature in my bedroom varies in the winter at night from 68 to 69 degrees with sometimes it getting as low as 67.

Re: Heated Hose Questions
The upgrade kit should work nicely with the 560 and help you do what you want to do.
I also like and need a lot of moisture and prefer a cool/cold bedroom. Once I got the heated hose it was so much nicer. I also used a hose cozy and it helped up to a point but not at the mask level so much because of the moisture in our exhaled breath adding to the problem in the mask itself.
With the heated hose you can choose between 70, 80 or 90 % humidity and 5 different levels of air temperature.

Changing the lid and hooking up for the heated hose was easy. I used that upgrade kit myself and it was super easy to do.
Once you change the lid there is still enough room to use a non heated hose without the electrical connection being an issue.

Re: Heated Hose Questions
in case others haven't made it clear, all you have to do is call up cpap.com, (or order it over the net)... no doctor needed.Tesseract wrote: I'm going to ask my doctor to prescribe me a heated hose as I've read on here that should take care of the problem. l

Re: Heated Hose Questions
I need to see if my insurance will cover the cost of the heated hose so I figured I should contact my doctor first.
