I am a side sleeper, diagnosed with an AHI of 108. Chronic insomnia for a little over for years.
I've had a CPAP a little over a month, and had a two week break in the middle for a septoplasty.
The CPAP was set for 13, after the first night I turned that down to 11, and then 10. I tolerate the machine well, can sleep OK, but the next day I suffer sinusitis so bad, and the pain lasts all day. After more research I turned the humidity from Auto to Max, and that helped, my sinuses were uncomfortable but tolerable, but I woke in the middle of the night with water in the mask. I've been reducing the humidity, but I've reached the point where my sinuses hurt all day again, and I still get rainout.
I had my bed raised on a couple of 2x4's after the septoplasty, but removed them, more for safety (I have a bouncing toddler) than any comfort reasons.
I can't seem to find any definitive answers, but would raising the head of the bed 6" benefit me, maybe enough to let me dump the CPAP? I consider the CPAP as a temporary solution, to help me sleep while I lose some weight, which will hopefully help be a longer term solution.
Side Sleeper, Raising the bed OK?
Re: Side Sleeper, Raising the bed OK?
Raising the bed will do very little, if anything, for the apnea. It does, however help GERD patients.

Fortunately I don't suffer from that.
How about sleeping sitting up? At this point I just want some good sleep without the sinus hangover.

Re: Side Sleeper, Raising the bed OK?
How about lowering the machine below the mattress level... water can't run uphill.
Re: Side Sleeper, Raising the bed OK?
What machine do you use? Are you aware that some machines have heated hoses to help with the rain out?
See this thread..2nd and 3rd posts for idea on how to deal with rain out depending on where it is.

I understand about the sinuses because mine like lots of moisture and I like a cold bedroom.
Oh...sleeping upright probably won't help all that much. I speak from experience there because sometimes I will nod off while sitting upright watching TV...be totally upright and snore and gasp and wake myself up.
Husband just sits over there laughing at me.

Re: Side Sleeper, Raising the bed OK?
Julie, it's slightly below me, I plan to put it on the floor tonight.
Pugsy, it's a ResMed, I raised the tube temp from 81 to 83, I think it goes as high as 85 / 87 at most. House is kept at 70 degrees.
