How do you know if you have leaks?

Post by ejvette » Thu Feb 12, 2015 5:28 pm

I'm reading quite a few posts from folks that have leaks through the night and I'm curious to know how one knows they have leaks?

Most use either the leak listing on the S9's screen, ResScan, or Sleepyhead to see the sleep data. A lot of leaks will wake you up or if you are breathing through your mouth, you will awake with a dry mouth. I've probably forgot to list some others but this should get you started.

I knew I had leaks my first night on cpap. The darn mask sounded like a whoopee cushion, and I could feel the blips on my face! Major leaks are usually obvious. It took a lot of tweaking and eventual use of mask liners to get them under control, and now any leaks I have rarely wake me up. These days I use Sleepyhead to tell me my leak rate, and I can see by the chart if I've gone over the red line. When leaks start waking me, or the chart shows in large leak territory for too long or too many times, it usually means I need to replace my cushion, and once I do that my charts return to their normal state.

When I wake up to hubby trying to stabilize my mask or hold my mouth shut.

Big leaks:When DH says "susan!" At 3 AM because it sound like I'm blow drying my hair.
Small leaks - check your Sleepy head
