CPAP and the Head Cold

Post by ronMonster » Wed Feb 11, 2015 10:35 am

My second night on CPAP I started getting sick. (thought I was reacting to CPAP). This might be a weird question but is it OK to wear CPAP while sick?
I remember waking up and thinking I was pushing it into my lungs, I'm sure that when I took off the mask because it was off this morning.

yes, it's ok, if not preferable. for me, when I get a cold, I crank up the humidity and that seems to help loosen up the congestion.

and, no, cpap isn't "pushing" anything "into your lungs". the only thing that goes into your lungs is what you inhale, and then you exhale. cpap just provides a little bit of pressure to hold your airway open. less pressure than you use blowing bubbles out of a straw in a tall drink.

Yes, it's okay to use cpap when you have a head cold.
It's not pushing anything into your lungs that isn't already in your lungs.
Do what you can to alleviate the cold symptoms just like you normally would. That's about all we can do. Increase your humidifier setting if you are someone who finds that a hot steamy shower helps with the nasal congestion. Remember the basics for upper respiratory infections...hydration, hydration, hydration. Drink lots of fluids.

thanks!
I have weird thoughts in the middle of the night (and some in the daytime for that matter).
Add in A little sleep deprivation and I have no logic at all.
