Has anyone used on of these oral devices and care to share their story?
I recently visited my sleep doc, and one recommendation was to use one of these devices. Naturally, he just happened to know a dentist who specialized in them. These devices are not cheap!! From start to finish it comes in at around $3500.00. Online makers of the boil and bite devices sell them for under $100.00
My main interest is; has there been a noticeable difference in the quality of sleep using either device?

Re: Mandibular Advancement Device
Hi there - I wish I could figure out how to link to another thread but I just posted on this topic a couple days ago for another user on here. Anyway, yes, I was successfully using one of these devices and got my AHI from 8 down to 1 with 15% of that time spent in REM sleep (in-lab sleep study followup). My device was $3,000 in 2011 so $3500 sounds about in the ballpark on price almost four years later.
I liked my device but if your insurance won't cover it or the sleep dentist will charge every time for an adjustment, I'd consider carefully. If I go the MAD route again, I'll talk to several sleep dentists before deciding who will make it. I probably would stay away from the boil-and-bite ones. I've never tried one but if it's not fitted by a dentist/ENT who has training in this area, I'd worry about long-term damage to my teeth/jaw structure.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Re: Mandibular Advancement Device
Thanks grayghost4. It looks like I shall keep my $3500 and spend it for something that I want. It appears from reading the thread you posted in the long run, it's a crap shoot at best. It also appears the sleep doc and dentist are in cahoots with each other. I'm not saying there's a kickback involved, but........ $3500 would be a down paymennt on a good new used car.grayghost4 wrote:viewtopic.php?f=1&t=103306&st=0&sk=t&sd ... ibular+adv
