I have had a sleep study done and was not impressed b their knowledge or professionalism. I therefore never went to be fitted with a mask and cpap machine. I would like to get started on this but would like to go elsewhere to have this done. Where do I get started to continue the process.

Tell your MD you want a referral... to a good sleep lab, unless you can refer yourself, in which case you could come back here (same thread please) and give us your city so others here can possibly recommend somewhere there. But, if you have no insurance, tell us, and we can give you ideas for finding a decent autopap and titrating yourself.

Incompetence runs ramped in this field. Sometimes you have to watch out, though. Some DME's, sleep labs, etc... may fake incompetence but know exactly what they are doing. I would take Julie's advice first. If it doesn't work out, I would stay with those rascals and keep watch over your shoulder. Let them fit you up with a mask, get your test results and get the treatment you need.

You've had a sleep study. Do you have results?

Do you have a copy of your sleep study report? If so you may not need to undergo another sleep study -- if you have "plain old" obstructive sleep apnea you might just be able to obtain a prescription and get an auto-adjusting CPAP machine, then fine tune your pressure settings on your own and with help from the seasoned users here. Kaiser sends their patients home for the 'second step' (titration) routinely. In the absence of complicating factors it's very doable.

Since you already had one sleep study, you have your diagnosis.
If you did not have a split study, you might also need a titration study.
Either that, or get your doctor to prescribe a full data apap.
