poor readings using mask liners

Post by phil96 » Sat Feb 07, 2015 3:09 pm

I am using an F&P Simplus full face mask, and after having much trouble with leakage and
sputtering, I am using mask liners. However, my AHI readings are worse with the liners than without them. Leakage is worse too.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I was interested in the Simplus and asked my DME (whom I really like) about fitting me with one, and he told me that it wouldn't do well on my face. He said that the Simplus does better for people with flatter nose bridges than mine, since the cushion is thick in that area. Maybe the mask just isn't right for your face. The experience of many people on this forum is that mask liners go a long way towards eliminating leaks.

Maybe you have the straps adjusted incorrectly. Try tightening the lower straps and loosening the upper straps to let the cushion inflate better around your nose. Tighten the upper straps only until the leaks stop. It should just "float" on your face. The tighter lower straps will anchor the mask and keep it from shifting. Make these adjustments while you're lying down.

Hope this helps!

Mask liners drive my leak rates thru the roof. I hate that because they are real comfy. I use the mask strap liners and they are great.

Another thing I do when needed is use an elastic headband and put it over my head and mask. Situate the headband above the elbow and below the air vents. This will give your mask extra support without over tightening the straps. Be sure to buy the longer headbands since they must go around more than your head. I bought a 3-pack from Walgreens for a couple of bucks, and they work really well. After fiddling with them to find the right support, I have found that wearing the headband below my ears and around the mask as I mentioned above gives me the best results.
