Pissed off scared and depressed

After being forced to go to sleep doctor by my other half I was diagnosed Osa. And now I'm just waiting to hear from the lovely home medical supplier which I picture as a cross between a used car salesman and a ambulance chaser lawyer type.
The home torture study I endured proved to me I dont have sleep apnea because I know now what not sleeping feels like.
So since so little sleep was had how the heck can they conclude that I have it .
seems like a scam to me.
So the thought of spending the rest of my life with junk hanging off my face and never getting a decent nights sleep to appease my wife pisses me off. Im a stomach sleeper snd I turn my head from Side to side to stretch out my neck. I'm so screwed. I don't want to have to adjust the way I sleep. I don't want crap in my nose on hanging off my face.
But of the plus side the side effect sound absolutely wonderful.
Gas.... Bloating... Neausa and severe cases vomiting
Face irritation, breakouts .... Marks on your face
Dry mouth
Sinus problems .... Great so I get to tAke more drugs to treat the symptoms
Nose bleeds
Sinus pressure

Well you sure sold me.
I think you and I and the thousands of folks who frequent this forum, had better stop using these silly machines and throw them all in the trash.

Or is it possible that your wife and doctor have recognized something in you that needs to be treated. Maybe she wants to keep you around for a while longer, or maybe she just can't get any sleep with your snoring. Tell her to check and be sure your life insurance is paid up and maybe double your coverage and she will leave you alone.

I know folks like you that would rather die than use their CPAP equipment. Sometimes when they are forced to try it they discover it is not only possible to get used to it, but they actually get restorative sleep for the first time in years.

I too was forced to get a sleep study. The best thing you can do for yourself is to make it work. It's not as bad as it may seem. Some people may some of the problems you listed but not all. I had face irritation, sore nares, and leaks that I worked through. Not all the possible problems that you listed and not all at once. And when you get it right you begin healing yourself of damage you never realized you were causing. Your wife may be worried about you because she can hear all the snoring, choking, and gasping. It can be a scarry thing.
I never knew I had a problem with apnea. Just all the symptoms it can cause which were being treated separately. I think I could have worked 10 years longer if diagnosed earlier. Also now my GERD is almost nonexistent, fatigue has greatly improved, palpitations felt at night no longer, short of breath asthma symptoms gone; so I'm thankful my apnea was found and treated. I now wish we could get the message out there for others to find their way to treatment.

I never had any of these except face irritations and a mask liner took care of that. PLUS my sinus problems and my asthma has greatly reduced, there is nothing quite like breathing filtered warm air for 8 hours to help with them.

Oh and your wife might look forward to having a better functioning sex toy to play with. I hear for some cpap therapy is better then Viagra.

Be prepared for a lot of harsh responses to your post, but also know that many of us understand how overwhelming the diagnosis (and prospect of treatment) seems. Sometimes I'm getting 'masked up' for bed and I realize that I still can't quite believe I'm tethered to this machine for the rest of my life -- and I've been c-papping for almost three years.

Welcome to the forum.
Since you're waiting for the equipment supplier (DME), you need to get smart fast. You don't want them to stick you with a non-data-capable machine. In other words, you WANT a fully, data-capable machine. If you have insurance paying for this, they'll pay by insurance code and the code for all CPAPs is E0601.
Go to CPAP.COM and look at all the machines and masks try to get a feel for what's available. The three most popular brands are Philips/Respironics, ResMed and DeVilbiss.

You can continue to be a stomach sleeper. I have always slept on my stomach. You just have to find the right mask and pillow combination. I use the P10 nasal pillows and a soft pillow that I mold it how I want. There are answers to your needs and people that will help you.

Like I said, we've all been there. How you deal with it will go a long ways to your getting good therapy, which is apparently what you need.

So am I, can't imaging sleeping any other way. 9+ years now FFM, 7.5 hours a night avg, don't fall asleep during the day, lots of energy, basically never snore any more, BP down, weight down. Hard to fathom attempting to sleep without it now.

Our entire medical mafia healthcare scheme is a scam.

However, they control the access to very real and necessary things like insulin, antibiotics, heart surgery, painkillers, blood pressure medicine, Viagra, X-rays for broken limbs, cancer treatment, etc.

Even if the medical system is corrupt, apnea is as real as diabetes or heart disease. CPAP is as necessary as insulin or heart surgery for those who need it. Fortunately, for most people, CPAP simply works after you get it adjusted right and figure out how to use it.

I don't believe the sleep labs often fake sleep test results. There are records and they don't really have that much of an incentive to do so. There are also so many real apneacs that they don't need to fake it.

If you do get stuck with a machine, read the articles linked in my "useful links" in my signature line below. They'll help you avoid being screwed as badly by the DME.

I have slept fine for the last 36 years . Why do I need to change ? Just another crutch in my life I don't need to deal with.
I wake up and feel fine. I'm not sleepy durning the day I don't wake up with headaches . It seems silly that the doctor I watched sleeping at his qualified to even judge me on my sleep habits. I felt like I just paid $250 for nothing.and then to allow sone DME as I heard someone refer to them as is qualified to determine what pressure I need to be set at. Sounds like I have a better shot at letting person form the local radio shack do it for me.
