Newbie with hose making put put sounds.
Newbie with hose making put put sounds.
Hi I'm a newbie with slight nose bleeds. I put humidity up to 7 on my ResMed AirSense 10 and last night I woke up about 2:30 to sounds something like put- put. Turned machine off but sound continued waking hubby. I then pulled electric connection.
There's still water in chamber. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? I had been sleeping well.

Re: Newbie with hose making put put sounds.
What it sounds like is that when you turned up the humidifier the moisture condensed in the tubing due to the room being cooler than the warm air. This can be decreased with a heated hose if you don't already use one, or a hose cozy. You can make your own out of tube socks or flannel or buy one. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/snuggl ... cover.html They come where they slide on with velcro closures at each end or one has a zipper to make it easier to put on.

Yep... putt putt sounds are water collecting a loop of your hose, probably where it slumps down between your machine and bed.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Added correct amount of water to humidifier and now it's making gurgling sounds while hose is quiet. Hate to lose another night because of Medicare rules limiting me to only 9 machine free night in 30 days.

lay the end of the hose on the floor... see what happens.Heather R wrote:Added correct amount of water to humidifier and now it's making gurgling sounds while hose is quiet. Hate to lose another night because of Medicare rules limiting me to only 9 machine free night in 30 days.

Pale Rider;
Followed your instruction to lay end of hose on floor ,turned on machine and at 6 humidity setting water came out on floor. Does that mean humidity level too high , water caught in hose or? At least it didn't make a noise.

Re: Newbie with hose making put put sounds.
Sounds like there was still some water in the hose left over from the condensation that occurred last night. It ran out on the floor...if the hose is now free of water things should quiet down.
Make sure to not over fill the chamber as sometimes when over full water can get blown into the hose from the chamber (at least with the S9 but I haven't seen a new AirSense to see how easy it is to blow back into the hose...I did that a couple of time with my S9 and it made an awful racket)...
If you have a heated hose...turn up the temperature so that condensation won't occur at your higher humidity needs.
If you don't have a heated hose...get one.
Or turn up the house furnace temp so that the bedroom air isn't so cool as to cause the air in the hose to cool and release moisture.
Condensation (we call it rain out) in the mask or hose...it's physics in action.
See my posts here as I go into more detail and explain the options. I think it is my 3rd post that addresses rain out in the hose.

you've identified the source of the noise now, if it happens again, lift the hose up, starting at your end, and let the water run back into the humidifier.Heather R wrote:Followed your instruction to lay end of hose on floor ,turned on machine and at 6 humidity setting water came out on floor. anything else I say would just be an echo of the excellent advice that Pugsy has given above

Re: Newbie with hose making put put sounds.
Thanks to all; After water was released machine and hose were quiet. I may have to get a heated humidifier although this machine says it has one but there are no controls that I can see for it.
PaleRider I will try that but also ask to try a full face mask covering my nose and mouth to get more air .

Re: Newbie with hose making put put sounds.
You have a heated humidifier already. A heated hose would help with the rainout: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... ve-10.htmlHeather R wrote:Thanks to all; After water was released machine and hose were quiet. When you attach a heated hose you will have more options for temperature and humidification. Those options aren't available when a regular hose is attached.

Re: Newbie with hose making put put sounds.
If you do have the heated hose there should be a section where the hose actually connects to electric circuit on the back of the machine where the hose attaches to the humidifier.
Non heated hoses have no electrical connections.
Your DME may have locked you out of changing the temperatures. That's easy to remedy.
If you don't have the clinical manual for your machine you can request it here
Just make sure to get the correct model.
Instructions down near the bottom of the page and the manual might help you figure out if you for sure already have the heated hose attached. The machine will recognize the heated hose automatically.

Re: Newbie with hose making put put sounds.
The heated hose you sent link to looks like mine. I'll have to call local company that I received machine etc. from tomorrow and ask some more questions. In directions it gives more options than are shown on my machine.
Thanks for the link.

you said earlier "6 humidity setting" <- that's the control for the heated humidifier.Heather R wrote:Thanks to all; After water was released machine and hose were quiet. I may have to get a heated humidifier although this machine says it has one but there are no controls that I can see for it.

is there a right angle connector on the machine end of the hose?Heather R wrote:The heated hose you sent link to looks like mine. I'll have to call local company that I received machine etc. from tomorrow and ask some more questions. In directions it gives more options than are shown on my machine.
or does the hose stick straight out the back of the machine.
if there's a right angle connector, then you have a heated hose.

Pugsy'
I'll call representative tomorrow since I don't want to mess up machine. There is what looks like an electrical connection when I attached hose to machine but not sure.
