New Soclean2 owner
Hi all,
I guess have a pretty strong immune system because I can count on one hand the number of times I've cleaned my CPAP equipment since 2006(other than the face mask cushions) so this week I decided to pick up a Soclean2 unit for my PR System One with heated hose and my HDM Z1.
First off I also purchased the PR adapter which is a humidifier with a hose in it. For anyone considering this unit it is quite easy to modify your current humidifier utilizing a drill and the included hose. I knew that but decided to spend the $32 extra on the pre-built unit.
I also modified the included hose adapter which is of no use to us with heated hoses so that I could use it with my Z1. Basically I shoved the hose which would normally stick into a humidifier back into the adapter and then sealed the end with some paper towel (will seal it with silicone calk once I get a change to make it permanent) This is now essentially an end plug for the hose with an inlet for the ozone which the Soclean2 generates. I suspected that it would not be good long term to have the ozone pumping directly into the Z1 since it doesn't have a humidifier and in not so may words The Soclean2 distributor agreed with me.
So tonight will be night two using my freshly disinfected mask and hose. There is an odor from the ozone which is similar to chlorine though not as strong and not at all irritating which is normal and which dissipates after awhile (not sure how long but it was gone when I awoke mid-night) over the course of the night. It is almost a refreshing smell.
Anyway, I feel good about the purchase, I just hope I don't weaken my immune system breathing all this clean air

Re: New Soclean2 owner
I had a hot tub with ozone generator, and we have ozone generators at my trucking company for disinfecting. When the cover came off the tub, it was strongly recommended to leave it open for ozone to dissipate before use. When defunking trucks, the generators are used with a truck closed up, but it's highly recommended to open and air out thoroughly for at least 30 minutes before occupying. If used in a house, they say take all pets and people OUT before use.
My suggestion is clean in the morning, then let things air out most of the day, just to be sure. Better safe than sorry.

It is our body's interaction with germs, that allows our immune system to thrive. The problem with immune systems, is when they get blindsided, and don't have time to adapt. Jim

Pretty much a waste of money. The tank and hose really don't need to be cleaned on a regular basis, just the mask. You don't share your machine right? so you are not getting exposed to other peoples germs. A simple washing out the mask should take care of issues.bill-e wrote:Hehe Drowsy, why is that?Drowsy Dancer wrote:You bought a SoClean? My condolences.
Ozone is not good for you, and if you have asthma, can be quite detrimental. If you can smell it, you should not be breathing it.

bill-e, You were doing so well for 8 years and then you go out and do something like this.bill-e wrote:I guess have a pretty strong immune system because I can count on one hand the number of times I've cleaned my CPAP equipment since 2006
Tell me, you must like gadgets and you had some time on your hands this week?

Re: New Soclean2 owner
gadgets, me? Of course
The cost of the unit isn't an issue as i'll just write it off. Before purchasing it I did check to see that it is FDA registered and from what I can tell that means it puts out less than 0.05ppm of ozone. Having use small ozone generators with salt water fish tanks I'm a bit familiar with it's use. I can see where industrial ozone generators which put out enough to sanitize a truck cab or hot tub would be a bit much but the medical levels are considered safe.
I would seriously welcome any links to articles or reports which talk about safety with medical ozone devices.
Thanks
Bill

Re: New Soclean2 owner
Sadly, ozone generators powerful enough to be of any use would be far too dangerous to sell to the general public.
The only benefits derived from the Soclean are peace of mind (even perceived safety has some benefit), and profits
The FDA approval only addresses safety; unfortunately, it is also harmless for the microbes!

So far all I've heard are opinions, please show me some facts.

You bought the machine. Use it regularly and tell us the facts.bill-e wrote:So far all I've heard are opinions, please show me some facts.

I will give you one fact - Tens of millions of people have used CPAP humidifiers safely for decades without needing SoClean.
This is an excellent example illustrating that supply creates demand.

hehe, I am one of those tens of millions....I'm also one who virtually never cleans the machine or even the mask....doesn't make me right .ChicagoGranny wrote:I will give you one fact - Tens of millions of people have used CPAP humidifiers safely for decades without needing SoClean.bill-e wrote:So far all I've heard are opinions, please show me some facts.

I'd probably have a slightly different outlook if I had to pay OOP for it and you are so right about me being a gadget guy

Plasma ball lamps are fairly cheap, and you can smell the ozone on your fingers after touching one.
I can imagine a DIY alternative to SoClean that would be a really cool light too!

I know NOTHING about the Soclean2 but I do have to ask: if doing next to no cleaning was working for you and was FREE, why change it? I guess I subscribe to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" policy.bill-e wrote:Hi all,
