A Question about the Aussie Heated Hose

Post by SleepyNoMore » Sun Jun 15, 2008 11:59 pm

Can we use the Aussie heated hose without plugging it in to the electrical socket and using it hooked directly to the heated humidifier? Or will that ruin the hose?

Do you think it will collect water/moisture in it? If so, will that ruin it?

Should I just use the heated hose without the HH or the HH and aussie (not plugged in to the electrical, because I get to much rainout with the regular hose and my nose needs much moisture, it's always drt, even in the winter!

Thanks,

SNM/SleepyNoMore

I believe that you can use the heated hose any way you like. However, it is designed to be plugged in and heated. The hole point of the heated hose is to counteract the warming effect of the hummidifer. Otherwise there shouldn't be a difference in the air temp between the hose and the rest of the room which causes rain-out.

The alternative is just buying a plain cover. Various sites sell them including our hosts for under $20. If this is not enough protection (wasn't for me) you can purchase a 15w reptile heat cord and put that under the cover and plug it in. I have used this and absoutely no rain-out.

Cheers

I'm having trouble imagining how you use this reptile heater cord- would you mind explaining in more detail? My Aussie heated hose is not working right now!

Thanks!

No problem.

The heat cord just looks like a very thin power lead with no end. I have attached a link at the bottom. I simply wound the cord around my tube. I then used my tube cover to secure it in place. I plugged it in and used it. No rain out.

As prevoiusly mentioned I discovered the idea by searching this forum. I think someone has just posted a link.
