aussie heated hose

Post by LDuyer » Sat Jul 21, 2007 11:04 am

Just curious (and I'm too lazy to do the search)....

But has anyone had trouble with the aussie heated hose?

I've heard reports of the wiring shorting and causing a spark to ignite the covering, endangering a fire. One report I heard was of someone turning on the humidifier and thus the hose, leaving the room for just a few minutes before returning to bed, and the smell of burning and seeing that the wiring had failed and was igniting the covering. Twice I've heard of this happening. Just wondering if any others have experienced this.

I pasted the string into a fresh browser - turns out the search results string doesn't work. But it did take you to the search page - that's something : )

Good luck.

I've had my heated hose for almost a year and no problems at all.

Heated hose and O2 enrichment

Post by rem700pss » Sat Jul 21, 2007 11:32 pm

I'd be very careful if you run a combination oxygen generator and cpap - mine has an input port for the o2 hose right off the humidifier before it goes down the hose (which rains when it gets cold and gurgles with water!) - but the air in that hose is pretty close to 50-80% o2 since it's pressurizing 99% o2 from the generator and shoving it down the hose.

If that caught fire - it would go up in a flash! I'd probably recommend not using o2 injection on an electric hose!

I'd like to see the exact words of that report. Turning on the humidifier doesn't turn on the Aussie heated hose.

There have been reports of hose melting, but I've not read of a spark. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I've just not read that. Been using mine for three years with no problem. I leave it plugged in all the time. I keep meaning to unplug it during the day, but forget to do that.

So would I.
Isn't it Fisher & Paykel who have a heated hose integral to their humidifier and cpap?

I may have gotten the context a little wrong. But this is part of the person's letter to the manufacturer:

.... It is turned off during the daytime. It was turned on about 30 minutes before retiring. When preparing for bed, a burning odor was noticed and upon inspection the wiring had burned itself in two at the point near the attachment to the hose. If I had not noticed this, it could have easily resulted in a fire. I had previously returned a hose that the interior of the cuff had melted, completely closing the hose from airflow. Now with this second failure, I am becoming very worried about the overall safety of this product. Had I waited until going to bed before plugging it in, I might have been asleep when it started burning, with a resultant fire! I have discontinued use of it at this time, but was wondering if this is a common defect and serious safety issue.

Don't get me wrong, I think their hose is probably great, and if this was a fluke, then fine. I'm only asking if anyone has experienced the same thing. A lot of people post here, so I thought I'd ask. I am not sure, but I think the F&P heated hose does not have a cloth covering... but I could be wrong.

Hmmm.... "the wiring had burned itself in two" "the interior of hose cuff had melted completely" ... this guy's hose is getting more power than is meant to handle.

Something wrong with the power supply? A power supply stornger than originally recommended?

Linda, I'm glad you posted about the concerns. All I was questioning was "turning on the humidifier and thus the hose"

The full quote you supplied in your subsequent post was from elliejosie's post in the second topic:

of the Aussie heated hose discussion links.

Thanks!

RG,

Thanks for the link to that topic.
The person who told me the above was a different person. I hadn't seen elliejosie's post before.

And an "oops" from me, too. LOL! Elliejosie's post was different from what you quoted.

Two interesting poins in Elliejosie's post:
The power supply came from the hose's makee
The hose didn't warm up for a couple of days before superwarming.

Both point to a faulty power supply.

Very troubling.
