Aussie Hose = No Congestion

Post by SelfSeeker » Thu Jan 18, 2007 8:21 am

I received my Aussie Hose yesterday.

So of course, I used it last night.

I turned off the Heated Humidifier (HH) and used it as a passover. (I bought the Aussie hose to heat up the air, so I could turn off the HH, because I found the higher I turned the HH the more congested I would get. (Without the HH on, the air was to cold.)

I woke up with no congestion this morning. I do not recall becoming congested last night after turning on the APAP. I do remember drifting off really quickly, which startled me so I woke up. Told myself it is ok to fall asleep and went back to bed.

My nose was the slightest tad dry. I will try the Aussie hose tonight with the HH on 1 to see if that is better. Even if it is not better with the HH at 1, at last night's conditions are good and the best they have been since starting CPAP treatment. I can see myself using the HH as a passover humidifier with the Aussie hose attached for long term.

There was about 0.5 cm (less then a 1/4 inch) of water missing this morning in 6 hours. Usually, 3-4 time more water is used up, when I do use the HH on 1. I can see the Aussie hose paying for itself with how much less water is needed in passover mode. Not having to fill the humidifier chamber ever 3 days will be a major bonus. (Better then the daily at the higher settings.)

Thanks Rested Gal.

And thank you for mentioning your experience without a HH and the Aussie hose. It was my deciding factor to invest in the Aussie Hose.

I can do this, I will do this.

Congrats Selfseeker!

I got mine last Friday. Never really had a big prblem with rainout, but just wanted some warmer air. It now feels like walking outside on a nice summer day, rather than a damp fall day. I love it.

It really seems well made, but I was kinda surprised to get a personal email and the package came hand addressed... this must not be some big company manufacturing these. It seems more like a one man shop.

aussie hose + passover HH

Post by Princess » Thu Jan 18, 2007 10:14 pm

I've been reading comments about using the HH in passover mode. It's mentioned here in this thread - can you tell me what that means, how you do it, and what benefit it has?

Thanks!

Passover mode means that the humidifier is turned off. The air moving over the water will still pick up moisture and carry it through the hose. If you use heat you will get more moisture, the higher the heat the higher the amount of moisture. Some don't need more moisture, just warmer air. The Aussie heated hose solves this nicely.

Just an additional endorsement, I've only used my aussie hose for a couple nights now but I love it already. I usually use the humidifier on 5, or my throat dries out, and no rainout, even in the Aura. My room has to stay cold as well, since I have roommates that live upstairs and would bake if we set the thermostat any higher.

Update:

Night 2: HH 1, woke up congested, both nostrils.

Took a nap with HH turned off, no congestion.

Night 3:

HH off.

I was slightly congested going to bed and was wondering how I will breathe all night.

No problem, I woke up with one side of my nose completely clear and able to take deep breaths. The other was congested. Both sides are now starting to feel congested, like I felt last night. Sore throat, yup a cold is coming on again.

My nose does not feel dry this morning. I hope that the Aussie hose with the heated humidifier turned off does not dry my nose in the long term.

I know now that I will be sleeping with the HH turned off and the Aussie Hose on from now on.

I think anyone waking up congested every morning or like me getting congested when putting on their interface (mask) at night should try the Aussie Hose.

When I got my hose I immediately turned up my HH from 2 to 5. Big mistake - I nearly drowned. I now run it on two but of course now the difference is I do not have any rainout and I sleep through the night most of the time. :D
