Smart Card Reader problems: Installing

Post by SelfSeeker » Fri Oct 06, 2006 7:29 am

I installed the Encore, the the reader.

Even thought the reader said to stop the Encore instalation. (already done)

Every time I plug the USB cable of the smartCard reader into the computer, I get a new hardware found and runs me throught the instalation wizzad, but other then run through the wizzard, the computer does not see the reader.

HELP.
I can do this, I will do this.

Did you use the software driver CD that came with the reader?

If so, you shouldn't have. Discard it.

You ought to go to the two-factor.com website and select the Mako Card reader pane. On that pane will be a link for the "Encore Pro driver". Clcik on that link at it will download the proper driver for EncorePro.

Make sure to install the proper driver BEFORE you plug the Infineer reader in for the first time.

You may need to de-install (remove) the driver that you've loaded. I would think that you can do that in the "add/remove programs" control panel.

Hope this helps.

GoofyUT,

Yes I used the software.

So I, unistalled it by add/remove and used the encore pro cd to install it like the instructions. Now when I plug in the reader it does not even tell me something is pluged in.

I will go to the site and try that.

Thanks for the tip. I will be back after I restart computer again

You may need to remove Encore Pro and then re-install it after you've gotten the propoer driver installed.

Do make sure NOT to plug in the card reader until you've gotten the driver installed.

Chuck,

Thanks for your continuted patiences and advice.

I will remove everything installed today and start from scratch.

I know you are not to plug the card reader in. But I thought the driver was installed. Each time just before finishing the instalation, there is a message saying to plug in reader after rebooting to finish instalation. I wonder if I am doing something wrong in that step.

Also the reader program from two-factor.com is ver 1.3 the encore pro I have is 1.6.

I think I may do an install from the encorepro cd, after I unistall everything and see if that makes a difference. I will then do it from two-factor.com if that does not work.

Either way I will post what worked and what did not work.

I think that you'll find that the version # refers to DRIVER v1.3, not Encore Pro v1.3.

Cheers!

Sounds like the driver for the smartCard is not installed. You can either get it from the website or from the EncorePro driver installation disk.

When I installed this stuff last week (encore pro and the official card reader from CPAP.com) I did it in this order.

1) Installed Encore Pro from the disk provided
2) Installed the driver disk that came with the card reader (sorry, I used the one that came with the reader with no problems)
3) booted the computer
4) plugged in the USB cable from the card reader
5) slid in the smart card from my APAP

I have Windows XP and the Encore Pro and card reader are the latest, about a month or two old sitting waiting for me to get brave.

I also recommend taking off whatever you have and starting over whether you go with the driver in the box or go to the web site and use what someone above suggested.

I found this viewtopic.php?t=10149 since I need to get ready to leave I can spend any more time on it now.

Snoregirl thanks for sharing.

When did you plug in the reader, after the computer was ready to use ?

Once you put in the reader what did you see, did you need to click on anything.

I am not sure what the SL..is.

Did I need to do something to the reader to record from the APAP last night.

Be back later.

I can do this, I will do this.

I believe I plugged the reader in after the machine fully booted and I was at my desktop. I remember trying to be cautious due to reading some people have issues installing.

Good questions. Wish I had video taped the install!! I am sure I opened Encore Pro. I don't know if I did that before or after plugging in the reader.

The only thing I remember is clicking on the words in Encore Pro that says smartcard utilities (upper left) Then preview (only other option is erase that I knew I didn't want.

I don't remember saying the "SL" so I guess I don't understand that one.

The CPAP or APAP records data, you shouldn't need to "do anything" to the reader to record anything from a previous night. Just use the card reader to transfer the data from the smart card to encore pro.

In Encore Pro, you have to create a patient file for yourself, before you can download.

In Encore Pro, you have to go into preferences, (top right of screen), click system settings, change smartcard reader to USB, default is serial (1980 programming style) Jim

..maybe this will clear up some of the confusion --

You will find the wrong drivers are only on the CD that ships with the
Hong Kong (3factors) unit. However, 3factors does have the correct drivers for download on their web site. If you purchased a legal copy of Encore Pro, it WILL have the correct drivers on the CD that is bundled with the program.

..and I almost forgot. On my computer (XP Pro) Microsoft will wake up and
recognize my compact flash reader the moment its plugged in, but not the
Smart card reader. However, the smart card reader works just fine...

Reader finally is working.

Uninstalled the Encore and reader programs.

My husband plugged in the reader, the computer asked for the driver. Installed the driver.

This is for the Windows XP.

That was it. I kept doing it and plugging in the reader afterwards.
