Sweet Dreams...

Post by LinkC » Sun Sep 11, 2011 1:16 pm

Nothing in my sleep habits nor my numbers has changed significantly, but the last 4 or 5 nights I have dreamed EVERY NIGHT. Before it was only occasional (every couple of weeks or so...). I know that dreaming is a good thing (indicates REM sleep); but just wondering why the sudden change.

Any thoughts (or dreams!)?

LOL, good one, that brought a very audible chuckle out of me.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Or any other changes in your life, even if subtle? Weather, work, schedule, removal of a stress in your life, anything?

And now I'm earning interest?

(I got a chuckle out of that one, too!)

(1) You're sleep is deteriorating and you're remembering more of your dreams because you're waking up more.
or
(2) You're sleeping better for some reason (loss of weight? better control of something else?)
(3) Have you started/ceased taking a new medication?
(4) Other hypotheses that don't immediately come to mind

Virtually no change to diet/exercise, etc.

Retired, but that was almost a year ago.

Some stress over the market (stock), but not nearly what it was in '08, and there was no change in dreaming then.

1, 2, 3: Nope, not that I know of. Hafta go with 4!

Oh well, don't look a gift horse...

Thanx.

(None of THAT type...yet! )

Yes.

I dropped my pressure by 1.5 cm and it seemed I suddenly dreamed all night long. I would check my software in the morning and my AHI stayed under 2.0. Often it would be as low as 0.1.

After a couple of miserable weeks I turned the pressure back to the original level. The dreaming went away except for an occasional dream just before I get up in the morning.

I believe at the lower pressure there were a significant number of RERAs and the software does not include RERAs.

Dreaming is a good thing. Remembering many dreams is a sign of too many arousals.

I read somthing about this...I always thought if you're dreaming and remembering them, that you are getting the good REM sleep you need. Then I recently read a post where someone said that if you remember you're dreams, it means you're waking up and it's not a good thing, and that is being repeated here.

Before I had my machine, I almost never remembered a dream because I figured I was not in REM. Now I am dreaming more that I am on the machine. I figured that was good.

So does anyone know the truth to this? If you dream more (or remember more) is it a good thing or a bad thing?

I almost never dreamed, all through my life. The other week I lowered my pressure due to painfully excessive aerophagia, and ever since I've not had as much gut pain, and less gas, but now I'm dreaming in color every night. Not quick flashes of dreams, but like long movies that just keep playing and playing. Sometimes they make sense, sometimes they are more, lets say... imaginative. But, lots of them, and almost every night since lowering my pressures. And, I still have pretty good energy during the day, but not what I would like to have. I still want to nod off after lunch at my desk.

So is anyone saying that dropping back on pressure that may not be optimal may produce dreams that you're remembering but in reality you're being aroused by inadequate therapy?

That might be true, Dori. I haven't felt like my pressure is high enough, but started having leaks with mask liners at higher pressures. That, plus the pain from the aerophagia is why I lowered it, then the dreaming started. I'm going to bump my pressure tonight and see if half a cm2 makes any difference over the next week. Maybe another bump the week after that and see what happens.
