Calist Banned

Post by forumadmin » Tue Oct 19, 2010 10:51 am

Howdy All,

I've banned calist. See the update here:

viewtopic/t56329/Who-here-works-in-medicine.html

I hate banning people. It is almost always the wrong decision. I've done it here. I want to be crystal clear about why:

1. Calist could have disagreed strongly with how CPAPtalk is run and the opinions its members hold as long as he wished, so long as it was done with a bare minimum level of civility. Rough as some of the exchanges were, in isolation I'd allow it. Mixing it up leads to better ideas.

2. Calist should not have PM spammed CPAPtalk members. This was a subversion of the spirit and intention of the board. Make and win your points on the board, don't abuse another aspect of CPAPtalk in an attempt to end around the discussion. This is poor form but even this likely merits a "hey, please don't do this anymore" warning.

3. You can not tell CPAPtalk that you are affiliated with organizations when in fact you are not. Perhaps calist worked there at one time, perhaps there are other nuances at play but these are between calist and NJH. I've got a letter from National Jewish health saying he's not employed by them. A corporation sends that letter in one and only one case - when they aren't employing the person in question. This false representation has resulted in the ban.

Disagree honestly and respectfully. Realize that love and kindness ARE good medicine even if they are not professional medical advice.

Johnny

Good idea Johnny! I'm lucky I never had anything to do with him but I'm happy he is banned, it's really necessary to keep a good standard of respect in the forum.

If I read well, he made 160 threads in 18 days?, wow! that's really weird.

Thank you!

The forum really lost some of its kindness when he was here, and that was unfortunate.

Now we can get back on track

What about the person who claims to have reached and spoken with Calist at NJH? It seems Calist was there quite recently.

Too bad I cannot edit the following quotes.

You mean on this thread? I was wondering about that too... though I don't think its the same person...

FYI. I'm not a psychopath (you never can tell though!), but I spoke to Calist tonight on the phone. For real. Validated. I called 411 for the medical center he works at, spoke to the operator, asked specifically for sleep lab, and Calist picked up.

I'm not trying to change anyone's opinions of course, everyone must make their own decisions for themselves, but he is a real person, and he sounded very kind and rational to me. I believe Calist is a good person at heart.

We actually had a lot of laughs about it, my phone call, etc.
Note the gviz does not actually say which medical center that is....

Johnny, thank you.

I agree that we benefit from different points of view. However, when the information in so radically WRONG it can lead to forum members hurting themselves by not trusting their doctors. The misrepresentation of the poster (where they worked) indicates to me that this poster did not intend to help others on the forum. Though I am patient with others, Calist appeared to be intent on hurting others. I do not understand why someone would do that, but clearly it undermines the purpose of this forum.

Based on the note Johnny added to Calist's original post in "Who Here Works in Medicine," whether he works for National Jewish Health or not, it appears as if they aren't very happy about having THEIR name associated with his behavior on this forum.

As for me, this is over and done with. I do wish Calist's posts could be removed, but will respect Johnny's decision regarding that. Thanks for addressing this promptly -- this forum can now get back to what it does best.

Does banning on this forum mean that the IP Address is flagged? Otherwise, there is no way to prevent him from creating another account under another name. Just wondering.....
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

I haven't followed all these threads, but doesn't "Calist" say here that he provided us with a false last name? So even if he worked at that facility, if that's not his name, they wouldn't know he was an employee.

Does it mater? I doubt the organization wants to have someone like that representing them. I am sure that was part of Johnnies information request.
