My husband and I (both on CPAP) are planning a two week trip to Italy this fall. I know that our machines are dual voltage, and I know that we need adaptors to plug them in, but we want to take extension cords in case the wall outlets are not close to the bed. Do we need any special extension cord to accommodate the 220 voltage, or will a regular U.S. 110v. extension cord do the job?
Thanks for your response!

ELECTRICAL TRAVEL QUESTION
Re: ELECTRICAL TRAVEL QUESTION
Your regular extension cords will be fine. The insulation can withstand 220 volts, and the current draw should be half of what it is at 110 volts.

Re: ELECTRICAL TRAVEL QUESTION
Maybe, maybe not. There are plenty of cheap extension cords still being sold in the US which are NOT insulation rated for 220V AC use.jdm2857 wrote:The insulation can withstand 220 volts...
The power cords that are supplied with xPAP machines are insulation rated appropriately for ~250V AC, but many domestic grade extension cords are only ~125V AC insulation rated (or have no rating at all indicated).
Cheers,
Bill
Re: ELECTRICAL TRAVEL QUESTION
Why take chances? Buy 220 volt extension cords when you first get to Italy. Assuming you don't speak Italian, the purchasing process will be an experience you'll remember.
Alternatively, you can always ask the hotel for extension cords.
