problem installing encore pro 1.0

My hard drive recently crashed & I'm having a problem reinstalling the smartcard reader/writer drivers on the new one.
I installed encore viewer (version 1.0) but the smartcard drivers won't install because it "could not find encore pro app 1.3 or greater."

I specifically remember having this exact problem when I installed this software a couple years ago but unfortunately I don't remember how to fix it. I'm resorting to posting this thread after searching about 70 pages of old threads.
Can anyone explain how to fix this in layman’s terms?

the drivers for the card reader should be on the CD that viewer is on

The smart card driver is on the CD in a subdirectory called "Smart Card Readers". You can find it by doing a right-click on the CD drive and selecting "Explore".

By the way, your post is confusing because you're intermixing the names "Encore Pro" and "Encore Viewer".

However, I thought the Encore Viewer software installed (pretty much) by itself.

Thanks and I see your point about the confusion.

The disk says "encore viewer" software. When the second disk for respironics smart card reader/writer disk is put in the computer it immediately begins to install and then the pop up window appears saying could not find "encore pro app 1.3 or greater." Their in lies my confusion. I think your both correct that the drivers for the card reader install with the encore viewer and I don't need the smart card reader/writer disk.

Seems the actual problem is that encore viewer won't read or acknowledge my data card is in the reader. Card reader plugged in USB, card is in reader, red light is on, but can't click download card.

Have you set yourself up as a patient? (or user or whatever)

I'm not sure I can figure out where you're at with this, but you might try just re-installing the driver from the CD. There should be a Setup.exe in that smart card directory.
Be sure you've re-booted your computer after installing.
If the light is red with the card in the drive, that's a "good" sign that it's at least talking to it......maybe needs a different "translator" (driver).

All else fails, uninstall (with Add/Remove Software in the Control Panel) and re-install it.

And, don't use the second disk.
