Craving my machine!

Post by Juliebove » Mon Aug 03, 2009 2:25 am

I can't remember the last time I used my machine. I find I can't use it if it gets much above 70 degrees because I sweat too much and the mask just slides all over my face. That and the moist air seems to make me hotter. My dad said he is having the same problem. Brother has AC so he's having no problems.

Anyway, we are having record high temps here and there is just no way to cool off the house. I did spend one night at a hotel for daughter's birthday slumber party. I was going to bring the machine but figured I had spent sooo much time without it, another night wouldn't hurt. It's also plugged into a place that is very hard to get to.

So now we are in for about another week of hot weather and I am just exhausted! I can't sleep because of the heat. I wake up just drenched in sweat. The best I can do is try to hang out at stores or restaurants for 2 or 3 hours, but that's getting expensive and I've run out of things to shop for. Everyone else is doing the same. AC is just not very common here because normal temps don't exceed 70 very much.

Can't wait for it to cool off!

This won't help with nighttime, but have you tried hanging out at the library? If they have A/C, it might be a nice place to sit and read and hang out -- they're used to people doing that.

Hope your heatwave ends soon!

Try turning your humidifier "Off" (if you have it "On") and keeping your distilled water (for your humidifier) in the refrigerator. When you get up in the morning, dump the remainder back into a container (bottle) and place it back in the fridge. Then, refill your humidifier tank before going to bed.

My Wife like to keep the house warm even in summer and all it takes for me to sweat is to blink. At night I have a fan blowing on my face from about 3 ft away and usually it is enough to use my Cpap. If this doesn't work there is always the climate controlled space suit that the astronauts use.

hard to help on this one as I live in South Florida and it is 70 in the winter....
However how about a window shaker (portable air condintioner)? We have one in the garage on the shelf
so if we have hurricanes and lose power it can be plugged into the generator and provide a cool room for sleeping...
fans may help as suggested? Also, what about a different type of mask (ie; nasal pilows)?

back in the old days ....
I used a wet towel on my chest with a fan facing directly on it. Even in high humidity a fan on wet towel cooled the towel down.

Also an ice pack in the back of the neck or on the wrists can be quite effective.

Put your pj's in the freezer... that will cool you right off when you first put them on.

Places to hang out... try the food court in the local malls. I see people hanging out there all the time and some of them even bring their own food.

No. From what they are saying on the news, the libraries are packed with people all doing that. Plus I hate reading these days unless it's just a magazine. I have that over 40 eye thing and also astigmatism. Can't read easily with my glasses on. Can read some with my glasses off, but the astigmatism kicked in. Tried reading glasses but they just made everything big and blurry. Plus I would have to take my daughter and that is one place she wouldn't want to go!

I can't use it with the humidifier off. I've tried. It's very annoying with it off. And someone here said not to use chilled water because it would only cause rainout.

Heh! I do have a fan blowing on my face now. Not sure it is helping all that much because it is blowing hot air. But I can't stand to have a fan on when I am sleeping.

Can't use AC with the design of this house/windows. We did have one. Gave it away. Can't use anything but a full face mask due to mouth breathing. Can't sleep with a fan blowing on me. I've tried.

I don't wear PJs. But I guess I could try that with my gown. The mall isn't really near here and the food court is always packed with people. I don't think the mall is very cool though. We just had to go there to get daughter's feet measured and get some new shoes. The shoe depts. were sweltering!

At least it is down to 83 today and supposed to get down to 80 tomorrow. Normally this would feel hot but now it feels cool! Guess my body is getting used to the heat.

That's the exact opposite of what would happen (WRONG). There should be NO RAINOUT with the humidifier turned "Off".

Why would it be "annoying"? You apparently can't even use the machine at all the way it is. The machine would be blowing COOL air into your face (with SOME humidity).

Try filling your humidifier tank with ICE <I like CRUSHED...> It's better than AC with CPAP.....
