Not a fun night!
Not a fun night!
This winter, the humidifier on my machine made me feel cold. I was actually looking forward to warmer weather, thinking how refreshing this would be. Ah, but it was not to be!
The temp. hit about 70something here yesterday. But due to reasons that I can not fathom, when the temp. gets like that, the inside of my house gets into the 80's and often will not cool off for days. Right now the temp. outside is 50 and it was 65 at the highest, but it's still too warm in here.
So I went to bed wearing an ugly but billowy cotton dress. It was the coolest thing I could find. Strapped on the mask and waited. Breathing... Breathing... Why didn't the machine turn on like it did in the past? Then all of a sudden it did, blasting air painfully out of my ears!
Then I tried to sleep. Tried and tried. Sweat seemed to pour from every pore. My face began to sweat and I could feel the mask sliding around. Not fun. Not fun at all.
I did try the machine the night before (when it began to get hot in here) with the humidifier set to 0 but that seemed to do nothing except make my mouth and throat all dry.
I am sooo not looking forward to the warm weather now!

My in-laws live in Castle Rock, so I know not everyone out there has air conditioning. How a regular fan blowing some air around to cool you off?

My nights are always fun ... but I go to bed butt-naked.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Julie,
I am a big man and all that I need to break out in a sweat is the thought of the temperature going above 60 degrees. When I sleep I have a fan blowing at my head which keep me from sweating and allows me to sleep. Give it a try and do not worry about what might happen just deal with problems as they happen.

Re: Not a fun night!
In the winter I sleep with a bedroom window open about an inch, and a fan blowing right at my face and head. In the summer the AC is going and my fan at my head. I definitely could not sleep without my fan!!
Re: Not a fun night!
Fans don't seem to help. Because of the way our house is designed or perhaps the way it sits, there is no way to draw any cool air into the room. There is a window in the room but it is up very high. It's a wide window but only about 2 feet up and down. There is a ceiling fan in the room but the air it circulates just doesn't reach my bed. Plus I simply can not sleep with a fan on. Between the air blowing on me and the noise, it's unbearable.mdbarthe wrote:My in-laws live in Castle Rock, so I know not everyone out there has air conditioning. We don't have AC and no real way to get it. No ducting in the house for central and I can't put one in the window. AC is not very common here except in newer, very expensive homes. No need for it most of the time.

A fan blowing on my head would drive me nuts and there is no way I could sleep with it on. I have tried fans before. In general I just don't like them.Sleepy Taz wrote:Julie,

How do all of you people sleep with a fan on? There's no way I could.preemiern wrote:In the winter I sleep with a bedroom window open about an inch, and a fan blowing right at my face and head. In the summer the AC is going and my fan at my head. I definitely could not sleep without my fan!!

don't want to be crude but have you tried sleeping naked. and there should be a switch on the ceiling fan that makes it go the other way, that might help also i seen on cpap.com there is a bed fan that you put on the end of the it blows under the covers
Re: Not a fun night!
Its all a matter of what you are used too. When I started sharing a bedroom with Mrs. Alnhwrd, she ran a fan in the room and said she couldn't sleep without it. I was an "any noise in the bedroom will keep me awake" kind of guy, but quickly adapted and now can't sleep without it myself. The Power of Love is a wonderful thing!Juliebove wrote:How do all of you people sleep with a fan on? There's no way I could.

Re: Not a fun night!
They now make air conditioning systems that are ductless and work pretty good. They dont go into the window. I read you say you cannot put one in your window, this may be a solution, how ever I am pretty sure a good handy man can figure some thing for the window. My bedroom window also could not take one, but a great handy man figured out a way and I have one now. Air Conditioners are so small now for the windows and it would be cheaper than they new ductless central conditioning units.
Re: Not a fun night!
I have a portable airconditioner/heater combo thing. It's pretty big actually but it will cool a whole floor. I used to use it in my warehouse back in the day.
The exhaust is a simple flex tube. When I moved my business home I set it up in the garage and put it near the wall, boring out a hole for the exhaust tube. A standard dryer vent capped it outside and it works like a charm.
Last summer our AC died during 100+weather. While we waited for the guys to come and put a new unit in we ran my portable on the main floor and another on the top floor. The house was pleasantly cool. You may want to look into this if it's an option for you.
They run about $500 up here. It's a combo unit available at homer depot. A/C, dehumidifier, and heater. They are pretty quiet too considering the size of them. There are smaller ones as well.
You can also install the exhaust in a window adapter thing (hard to explain but it's easy)

Froro, I'd like to know what you can tell us specifically about your power bill while using this A/C unit--and if possible, as compared with a window unit, or a Central A/C system. Any idea how we can compare them?Froro wrote:I have a portable airconditioner/heater combo thing. It's pretty big actually but it will cool a whole floor.
DeVilbiss IntelliPap Std Plus with Smartflex; Transcend miniCPAP & Everest2 w/humidifier & batt for travel. UltraMirage FFM; PadACheeks; PaPillow. Using straight CPAP at 13.0/passover humidifier. AHI consistently < 1.5. Began CPAP 9/4/08.
Re: Not a fun night!
I have one like this, the portable one for the down stairs level and a window AC upstairs. I dont find a differance in power bills between the two units of significance.
