What a Difference a Doc Makes

Post by BleepingBeauty » Mon May 18, 2009 7:20 pm

Wow. I knew my new sleep doc was good, but she's really good!

I met her on the 8th, and she said she'd be ordering a new sleep study for me as soon as possible. She said the request would likely be denied by my insurance, since I've already had two studies done in the past six months, but that she would appeal the denial, if necessary.

Well, I got a call this afternoon from the sleep lab she chose for my new study, saying the request was approved, and they scheduled me for this Wednesday night! So it would seem that my doctor didn't wait for a denial from my insurance and instead submitted whatever documentation was necessary to get it approved right away.

I've already scheduled the follow-up appointment with the doc in early June to get the results. So my new treatment plan is not far off, and I should be enjoying effective therapy within just a few weeks!

Thanks, Bev and Laura.

If this is the level of care I've been missing for so long (and the kind I can now become accustomed to), I'll be in great shape in no time.

Hi B.B.

You go girl, you go.

No one deserves successful treatment . . . more than you.

Jan

Thanks, Kira and Jan.

AFAIC, we all deserve successful treatment. Notwithstanding all the individual tweaking most have to engage in to make this therapy effective, it helps immensely to start out on this road with a good, caring doctor. I don't know why I kept listening to a doctor who seemed unconcerned about my obviously ineffective treatment and my complaints of continuing sleepiness. If only I'd found this forum a long time ago...

Oh, well. Spilled milk, and all that. Onward and upward!

Know what you mean! I am so thankful I came here BEFORE my titration, and so learned things to look for. But I just got rid of a PCP who was so focused on one facet of my health -- my weight -- that he never noticed anything else -- not the apnea, not the cancer symptoms, nothing.

My new PCP, though.... well, she's of a different caliber altogether, I think.

It's nice to know there are some physicians out there who are competent!

Kiralynx, I just read an article on Medscape today about how doctors' weight bias interferes with their ability to treat patients correctly and effectively. It was a call for them to clean up their acts in this area, essentially.
