O.

Yes those selections are there but the waveform and pressure, events and leaks report are labelled usage report as is the actual useage report. Maybe a bug. This is what bothers me about buying software that isn't meant for the end user. How do we get version 1.3 if it comes out to fix bugs?

Yes - should probably be in own thread. Sorry.
Can you generate a new report? On the 420E, when you click the "New" button, you get a list of all the building blocks.

No "NEW" button. You click on select items to print button to select blocks.

On another note,I tried out the export feature but couldn't figure out how to turn it into a useful and readable spreadsheet.

I think Anne has done it with the Sandman's data.
You tell Excel to to import it, and - if there have been no changes - use a semicolon as the separator, and not Excel's default.

O.

Edit - my original was practically incomprehensible - Mindy's correct description of Excel's import made me check mine again...

I hope Anne can tell how? It is a text file but I imported into excel and used semi-colon I think and it is not useful as is.

I just tried it using Open Office v3 in the spreadsheet module and got it to work. Here is what I did. I'm no spreadsheet expert either, so there may be an easier way.

1- In Sandman Therapy software export the patient info as the default text file, "yourname.txt" .

2- Open a blank spreadsheet & with your word processor program, open the Sandman exported text file "yourname.txt"

3- Then copy ALL the text in the "yourname.txt" file, on a PC via "Ctrl+A", or go to "Edit>Select All" and then choose "Copy". (I don't have an "import" function in OOffice spreadsheet so I had to do it via copy)

4- Then in your spreadsheet program, put your cursor in the first Row and Cell and then Paste the info previously copied to RAM (clipboard), use the quick keys "Ctrl+V" or go to "Edit>Paste Special" Exel may have a different type of Paste but try one or both Paste Options, and now the critcal step, next for me came up a menu asking in what format is the clipboard contents (not those exact words, it just showed a list) and after trying them all, I found that the correct choice was "Unformatted Text".

5- Choose "unformatted text" as the info in the clipboard text type or format.

6- Next comes a menu which gives a few more options and there I needed to choose the "Character Set" to be "Unicode" (which is what the Sandman Therapy Help said it was formatted as) and then I had a choice of "Seperator Options", and here I chose "Semi-Colon", (which again the Sandman Help says that it's export text uses) and then I chose OK and the text was properly pasted into the spreadsheet.

Hopefully your spreadsheet program has similar steps? However while it's seemingly formatted properly into Columsn and Rows, it isn't an easy thing to read, as there is lots of scrolling to do up and down, and left and right to see the column titles and the info and events based on the times that they happened. But it's there and a different way of looking at the info.

Hi and Thanks. I got it to open before but couldn't make anything out of it. I will try again with your steps.

Here's my way of formatting Sandman exported data and creating a PDF of waveform reports. If anyone has a better method I'd be delighted to learn it!

Formatting exported Sandman data:
1. Export data from Sandman and save as "report.txt" (your name in place of "report")
2. Open Excel program (not document)
3. File/Open/xxxxx.txt (same name you used above in place of "report")
4. Make sure button next to "delimited" is checked and click "next"
5. Check "Semicolon box" (and leave the rest alone) and click "next"
6. Click "Finish"
And you should have the exported data in a formatted Excel spreadsheet. To keep it in this format do a "Save as" and make sure it says something like "Microsoft Excel" rather than ".txt" in the format box.

Printing a "waveform" report:
1. With the Waveform report showing on the screen the way you want it, make sure the Sandman window is selected
2. Hold down the "Alt" key and hit "PrtScr"
3. Open Paint program (Start/All Programs/Accessories/Paint) and paste (CTRL+V) into the blank window that appears.
4. I found that I need to use the Image parameters to crop and resize the image to about 80% and set page setup to landscape
5. Once it's ready, I print to my PDF printer from Paint.

I do lose a little bit of the scrollable text report from the bottom. Here's a sample:

I found a more direct way in OpenOffice (OO) software:

In OO Spreadsheet, go to File>Open and then find where you saved your Sandman exported .txt file and highlight (hover) over the exported txt file. Do Not click on it or it will open the file in the default format and in the word processor as gobbldy gook text.

AND BEFORE you click Open, with the txt file highlighted (hover) you need to choose the File Type of your Sandman .txt file in the drop down box beside the long lower file name box. Here using the drop down arrow, you scroll way down and choose the file type option of: Text CSV (*.csv, *.txt, *.xls) .
Then Click Open.

Next is a menu asking for more Options. Here it should show the Character Set as "Unicode", if not, choose Unicode. And below that, you need to select the Seperator Options, and only select "Semi Colon" as the seperator type. Then you can click OK, and yourname.txt file from Sandman Auto will open and be properly formatted in the Spreadsheet.

It's easier to do than these written directions may read.

Basically, the default file type to open is the problem, as it is set to be just an ordinary word processor Text (.txt) file type containing no formatting, which is why it shows up as unformatted jibberish in a spreasheet program. You must choose Text CSV as the file type, then Unicode as the Character Set and then Semi Colon as the Seperator Type for the file to open properly. These are the formattings that the Sandman exported .txt file contains.

I've never used OO. In Excel, the steps are really quite simple since most of it is part of a Wizard that pops up as soon as Excel recognizes the "gobbledegook". Excel figures out that it is most likely delimited text and sets that as the default (it will set fixed columns as default if the data looks like that). I only need to specify Unicode with certain files but not for the Sandman data.

Ok - I opened it again your way and looks the same as my way and I can't make anything much out of the data. I don't see times of each event or anything like that.

1. Are you using Excel or OO?

2. If Excel, did you start the Excel program rather than double-clicking on the ".txt" file?

3. If yes, did you then see a box labelled "Text Import Wizard - Step 1 of n"?

Why do you need times of each event exported?

You've got the waveform chart in the software, and, at least in Silverlining, they have a cross / pointer that lets you pinpoint an event by clicking on it, and the you can see it's exact time (shown at the bottom of the screen), and a vertical line gets drawn through everything that happened with it: other events (central or obstructive). snores, runs, leaks, pressure, etc. If you put the horizontal line on the leak chart you get the exact leak at that moment, and if you put it on the pressure, the exact pressure.

I don't have the Sandman so maybe the device is not there any longer. Still, I would be very surprised if they dropped that pointing device from the waveform screen.

Silvelining creates 3 file on export: A session file, a 24 hour file, and a 96 hour file. What does the Sandman export?

Mindy - I did all that

O - I wish the sandman software did all of that cause it does none of it ! That would be great ! Sandman makes a single txt file. I would be glad to send you one if you tell me where to send a text file. Maybe in chat real quick?
