Question for Canadians who bought from cpap.com

I am planning to buy M Series A-Flex, to be shipped to Montreal.

If anyone Canadian would share experience buying from cpap.com, I would greatly appreciate it. Is it true that machine comes as a medical equipment, so there is no duty to be paid? Or if there is Also, it would be great to know your experience as a customer, I mean Canadian customer.

Lots of Canadians have purchased from CPAP.COM.

If you go up to the Search function and search on "Canadian", "Canada", "customs"......and the like, you'll find a good number of threads.

I have made half a dozen purchases from cpap.com and there has never been any duty payable. There has always been a label attached stating it was prescription medical equipment. For mask purchases I usually just use their U.S. mail service which currently costs $10. I bought a REMstar Auto from them them in January and used UPS second day delivery for that one. A pricey option, but I really didn't want to trust the mail with the machine. Service from cpap.com, in my experience, has always been excellent. Really great deals now that our dollar is at better than par.

I have purchased from CPAP.COM, however I had it shipped to the border and carried it accross. It took about 15 or 20 min. but the CBSA Officer looked up the appropiate section and I did not pay any GST.

I order from them all the time and have never paid duty (even on orders of nothing but small mask parts) - I'm in N.S..

I am going to buy Respironics M Series with A-Flex this weekend. Probably will choose FedEx or UPS. Now I feel a lot more confident to do so Thanks again!

Sure, if I had an insurance, I would buy from domestic supplier. Insurance covers 80% or more. Otherwise, for the same machine I would buy from cpap.com for $700, I would pay over $2200 in Canada.

EXACTLY!

Canadian companies are simply abusing the government and taking advantage of the health care system. I asked them straight - why are prices in U.S. supplier website are so much lower, they couldn't give me a straight answer!
Well, they say, everyone has his own way of making money....duh

just people who stuck in between, without insurance, are the victims. At least we can buy from cpap.com is some relief

We are all victims ... those of us with insurance pay thru higher premiums/copays and less benefits.

This is exactly happening to the medical equipment suppliers in many parts of the world. In Austarlian the brand new CPAP A-Flex with Humidifier cost around AUD2299 to AUD 2799 That is USD2500+ to 3200+ and the DME sellers said provide exccellent warranty coverage after making all the money from you....just make your money and let the manufacturer 2 years warranty take care of ity self. Heartless.

As I understood, we have a reverse problem with US, we have practically free doctors, visits all covered by the government (at least in Quebec) but super-expensive equipment.

i don't know about quebec, but here in ontario the health care is anything but free...we are taxed to death to pay for our substandard health care, and if you're unlucky enough to live in an underserviced area like i do, you have few to no options with regard to doctors, but have to pay those taxes anyway!

now talk to me about france...they have the right idea! they may pay through their taxes also, but the health care is first rate
