REMstarPlus Leaking on Bedside Table

Post by foznot » Thu Feb 22, 2007 11:05 am

A while back I read some info that was posted about others having problems with the leaking of the water onto their bedside tables. There was reference to a phone number to call Respironics. Can anyone point me in that direction. I have searched the postings with no luck. Thanks!

I had this problem.

The issue on mine was the rubber seal that runs around the middle of the tank. My DME exchanged the whole tank (not just the seal) and it's working fine.

I noticed the seal on the first tank was black. The seal on the new tank is blue.

I couldn't use my CPAP at all while it was leaking. My sinuses can't tolerate non-humidified air. For this reason, I'm being careful to make sure the seal on the new one doesn't fail. I don't open the tank at all. I only use distilled water, so I'm comfortable with this.

Definitely call the DME.

The problem happened for me any time the pressure went over 13 cms H2O. The replacement reservoir works fine. No problems.

This happened to me once when I didn't check that the seal was straight before I put the two halves of the humidifier back together again after cleaning. When that happened I could see that the seal was out of position as soon as I looked.

This is a fairly new machine with a blue seal for what that's worth.

The problem is it leaks at the O-ring due to a defective injection mold of the tank.

As mentioned, you should contact whom ever you purchased it from for a new replacement tank, you should NOT be charged for this.

I also suggest NOT taking the tank apart for cleaning, just rinse it out is about all you need to do. The more you take it apart the more chance it has in leaking.

You should also remove the tank and carefully dump out the water that accumilates in the heater platform. There are some hole under the machine side that it will run out of if you tilt it, you should dump this water out before it ruins your night stand.

Respironics phone number should be found in your User Manual.

I have the 'blue seal' and have had 3 instances in 6 months of water leaking from humidifier. In all 3, it happened just after cleaning humidifier. After taking it apart and carefully resealing, it's fine. I now test the seal after each cleaning. Maybe the tank doesn't need cleaning with use of distilled water. Have never noticed any buildup or growth at all.

I have had the leak problem with mine also. It has the blue o-ring.
I inspected the o-ring and mating surfaces and can see no problem with any of them.

Being an underwater photographer and familiar with the way we handle o-rings, I took a small amount of silicone grease and coated the o-ring and carefully cleaned the mating surfaces with a lint free paper towel.

I will try it out and see if it fixes the problem and report back.

The closest location for the DME I got the machine from is about an 80 mile round trip, so I hope I don't have to take it there for replacement.

got my remstar plus in november and had problems with leaking HH right away (yes it had a blue ringseal). DME exchanged the resevoir and it works much much better. I've only had an occasional leak and i find that this happens when i overfill the tank. If i fill it over 2/3 of the way then thats when i get the leakage. It also helps to make sure that the resevoir is pushed in all the way and makes a good seal at the back end. Also, keep something underneath the whole unit to protect your furniture. I have an old metal tray, but anything flat would do
