Nasal mask better for side sleeper?
Nasal mask better for side sleeper?
Does anyone think a nasal mask is better for side sleepers than nasal pillows? I feel that the nasal pillows get dislodged when I turn on my side.

We are all different, but I have the same issue. I roll around so much I get a lot of leaks around my nostrils. I can keep the leaks pretty well under control with both an FFM and a nasal mask.

I have no trouble sleeping on my side with pillows.

I have a nasal mask and I am a side sleeper. I don't have any problems with the pillows dislodging. Maybe I just got lucky.

Re: Nasal mask better for side sleeper?
That was my biggest fear when I decided to try the nasal pillows before a mask. I sleep on my back and both sides, but thankfully (knock on wood) I haven't had any issues with leaks or the pillows coming off at all. Yet.

Re: Nasal mask better for side sleeper?
Actually I feel, that for me, nasal pillows dislodge less when side sleeping or tossing and turning than a nasal cushion mask.
Been using nasal pillows for over 8 years now and find that they stay put better than when I tried the Nano cushion or the DreamWear under the nose cushion.
I think that you will find that most nasal pillow mask users will agree or else we wouldn't be using them.
I sleep primarily on my side and not just one side but both sides and do a considerable amount of turning from side to side with some stops on my back sometimes. The nasal pillows, when properly sized and fitted, stay in place pretty much 100% of the time no matter what position or how much moving around I do.

I'm a toss-n-turn sleeper ... so I sleep on both sides and my back.
Oh yes, and I have never had any leak problems with any of my nasal pillow mask(s) because of what side I sleep.

My preferred mask is the Dreamwear pillow, and I sleep mostly on my stomach and sometimes on my side. Re: Nasal mask better for side sleeper?
I agree with MaxINTJ. The dreamwear pillow lets me roll from stomach to side to side and back to stomach. The hose at the top of the head helps with this movement as well and does not tug at the front of my mask as I roll around.

One more proponent of nasal pillows. I am a side-sleeper and rarely have any leaks even with the high pressures of ASV.

Nasal pillows +1
had a head cold last night. was wondering if I would need to pull out the torturous FFM so I could sleep with nostrils playing tag on which would stay open.
Slept fine.
BiPAP pressure was enough to keep 'em open and clear.

Re: Nasal mask better for side sleeper?
I used to sleep on my right side, all night, every night. I found that a little adjustment to a nasal pillow mask helped. I'd tighten it up a bit on the "top" side (left side in my case" and loosen it up on the pillow side (right side in my case). That gave the mask a little bit of "play" as it was pushed by the pillows.
Now I can't sleep on my right side all night any more. I start out on the right, move to the left, and sometimes on my back. But I use the DreamWear mask now, and it doesn't get bothered by my side sleeping at all.
