Check out another USB port. My laptop is very particular about use of the correct ports for the reader. Since I figured out which one works, it always does work.

One thing I didn't see, I may have missed. In Encore Pro, go to upper right, preferences, click on it, system settings, make sure the reader is set for USB. After setting click apply... Jim

Jim is right. I had trouble with both the computers I have this on. It took awhile.

My Toshiba will NOT tolerate my switching USB ports. I had never thought about it before. Good luck.
Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.

Have you rebooted?

You might have to reboot and then retry the different USB connections.

smartcard reader not detected

Post by RoyalNose » Sun Sep 17, 2006 10:48 am

I changed USB ports, and got the same problem. Fixed it by rebooting. I guess the computer needs to reboot to recognize the new port the reader is plugged into. However, I have Windows 98--not sure if XP reacts differently. But now that you've uninstalled/reinstalled, you may have compounded your problem. I found that uninstalling requires an exact procedure. First, unplug the Smartcard reader. Then, go into Control Panel, and delete both the device driver and the device. Then, uninstall the Microsoft SQL database program. Then uninstall Encore Pro. Be sure to install everythng in correct order (Encore Pro first, then device driver, and lastly plug in Smartcard reader. Hope this helps.
