This is not in finished form, but is information gathered from different threads found via a fairly complete search. The initials and names at the bottom left of each section are the forum names of the authors. Please note that other Australian vendors also will sell the software to those in the USA; my guess is that they will also sell to Canada. I used http://www.sleepfitness.com/accessories.php?cid=17, and made inquiry via their 'contact us' option at the bottom of the page.
If others add useful information to this thread, it could become a one-stop resource.

The VPAP III is a rolls royce when it comes to meaningful data that can be read by the machine. This is one of the few Bilevels that provide airflow ventilation data as well as AHI & AI & HI data (all very helpful). Most provide only one or the other but not both.
All you need is a 'null-modem' cable (9-pin at each end).
A pc with a serial port (9-pin). And the Autoscan software ($100 from any of several online Resmed sellers).

Check that the download setting is NOT to overwrite, or you will only be able to keep 5 nights of detailed data for your night profiles. Make sure you have your file open before you download the new data. This procedure should sort you out:
1 in the MORNING (before midday), copy the data onto the card from the flow generator (but download the data at least 10 minutes after turning the machine off)
2 open your current AutoScan file
3 click the "Download/ResScan data card" menu in AutoScan
4 save the file after the new data has been downloaded.

The S8 Elite & Vantage (cpap & auto) record nightly data & this can be extracted using AutoScan 5.7 software. The LCD panel on the machines also allows a user to check the nights average AI & HI stats plus the overall AHI.
This quote is from the Autoscan 5.7 help file.
Quote:
S8 AutoSet, AutoSet Spirit, S8 Elite and S7 Elite
These units can record up to 365 days of usage and treatment data. Usage data includes mask on/off events displayed on a Time of Night scale. Treatment data includes pressure and leak as well as indices including AHI, AI and HI. A maximum of five nights of Night Profile data can also be stored, which includes pressure, leak and events data.

I’ve read several posts that the Secure Tech Smart Card Reader http://securetech-corp.com/acr38.html works fine with the Autoscan software.

I've found two ways for that unfilled bar to happen. One is if there are 5 or more mask on/mask off events in the 24hr period. That is documented in the help file.
I figured out that most of the time that this happens to me, I am dumping the data to the card too soon. It seems that any time I write to the card within ~10 minutes after shutting off the CPAP, that the bar is unfilled for the entire night.
When it happens, I close my data file without saving it if I've dumped it to my ongoing file. (I often dump it to a new file, and check the data before dumping it to my ongoing data file.) Then I stick the card back into the CPAP to be written again after I'm sure it's been off 10 minutes. If you export your data, you'll find that it records for 7-8 minutes after you've shut off the CPAP. I guess it wants to make sure you're not coming back soon? Yeah. I don't really know why it does that.

Anyone wanting this fix can now download it (it is packed in a zip file).
To read the instructions and download it, select 'AutoScan Swre Patch'
off the 'Main Menu' panel.

I bought an ACR38 card reader here (http://securetech-corp.com/acr38.html)
for $30 and it works with AutoScan. I didn't even have to install any drivers. I just plugged it in, fired up AutoScan, and it read the data from the card.
To line up the small ResMed data card properly, I cut off a strip from an old expired credit card and used it as a guide. I'll probably rig something a little more permanent.

today I googled 'AutoScan Resmed Cpap' in Google Australia & the 1st online seller to pop up was the one I got on the phone to. This was the 1st & only one I needed to call.
