I notice that if I make some smell in my house, such as burning something on the stove, even a few hours later, I'll smell it fairly strongly in the CPAP for a while.
It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but it maybe there's something like the air filter soaking up the smell. It does go away after a while. My S9 machine does blow air gently though the machine to "cool down" so maybe the water soaks up smells during the cool down period. Maybe there's some sort of neurological phenomenon that makes us smell things more strongly through the CPAP.

I wonder if this might have a bearing on the smell you are experiencing

I know that during the past week of using CPAP I have noticed that I smell everything more strongly for quite a while after I get up in the morning. I assumed it was because of breathing filtered air for 6-7 hours while I was sleeping.

I do suddenly smell things that I had been isolated from by the filter and system,
but I was wondering if OP's olfactory sensitivity might be related to fibromyalgia.

Thank you, Frog! Interesting article. However, this morning the smell was much less pervasive. I don't get it but hopefully, by tomorrow it will be completely gone. The other thing I'm perplexed about is how much more comfortable I am with this machine instead of the SystemOne loaner I was using. Not that I was uncomfortable with the other one! I did find some information on another Apnea forum which was interesting:

Thanks to everybody that made comments/suggestions!

I find that I like the s9 way better than the systemone when it comes to subtle things about how they handle the flow.
I can't put my finger on it, (others here are much better at describing the 'feel' differences, I just like the s9 versions I've used better.
