Just a procedural point: If you vote on a poll, any poll, old or new, you of course move the post up to the top of the first page, HOWEVER you do this anonymously (as Pugsy mentioned)... nobody knows who you are, which works to the Poll Troll's advantage and cloaks his/her identity.
On the other hand, when you post a reply, then you are on record with your user name listed and so forth. That's why the Poll Troll uses old polls and not just any regular old post - it keeps his/her user's name off the thread - and thus prevents membership revocation.
What it all means to new members? I think it is important not to reply to these nuisance polls or vote (or you can just reset your member parameters). Also, in spite of what Goofproof professes, it makes you look like your are not quite up to speed with the forum's protocols. It's not a crime, however it's not too flattering to have so many needy member pleas for help shuffled to the latter pages simply because the first page is clogged with a plague of old polls. I hope that makes sense to most members.

I don't think I've ever voted in a poll, but I'm curious: is a membership revocable offense to vote in one that is past a certain age?

I guess we can put this thread to rest before it gets way out there
But I guess the question I have now is....why would someone do this on purpose?
Is this poster so childishly vindictive from being pissed off by somebody? Or are they just an impish prankster?
I'm a regular member of numerous forums, and I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before.
Anyway, hopefully people will just ignore these old posts and we can continue to get the info we need from the forums.
Since this apparently happens regularly, maybe we should make a sticky "Don't feed the troll polls"

For sure... the troll just loves the threads which result after he/she brings them back up on Sunday nites. I think she/he finds them even more fun than just bringing up the old threads! I don't know why I keep saying, "she"... you know a woman would never do anything like that.

Some people have incredibly empty lives.
A few turn to drugs or alcohol; others try to influence other people's lives;
--even if it is destructive and cruel.
I can imagine such a person would harbor an incredible amount of self-loathing;
as if earning the pity and revulsion of others is not enough.
