I really DON'T want to see monitoring on this site. Part of why the forum works is because of the lack of a moderator. Someone said recently, I think it was BlackSpinner, that the site hosts believe we are all adults & should conduct ourselves as such. I probably didn't repeat that exactly but something to that effect. I believe the openness of this forum allows us to converse without boundaries. I agree the topic has been raised, warning others of potential hazard & I consider it done. I'm not posting anything else on it, but some feel the need to keep it alive. Just wait it out and after everyone has had their say, the thread will die out.

That post should raise awareness that now of days the creeps are every where and proceed with caution.

My sleep study was in a major metropolitan hospital with an adjacent parking deck that was edgy for even a large man, especially considering the long walk to the sleep center. I know this approach is not for everyone, but you may rest assured that I went in the most extreme manner of "preparedness" possible. No muss, no bother, no one knew but me.

I don't think that any one person is ever able to guarantee their own safety 100% of the time, but as said above "awareness and preparedness" are indeed one's best chance.

Mine was done at St Francis hospital in Federal Way, WA. It's a very large building with sections, and it was in one section further away from the main part of the hospital. My sleep doctor is also within the Franciscan system, but in a separate building that has a lot of doctor offices.

When I picked up the paperwork that needed to be filled out before the sleep study, I asked about medication for sleeping. They told me that they are not allowed to give any medication, but I could ask my doctor to prescribe something. They also said not to take it in advance, but tell the sleep tech when you arrive. When I checked in, I told the sleep tech, and she asked if I had ever taken it before. Since some people get sleepy right away, and I had never taken it before, she had me take it just before bed so that I would not risk being too sleepy before we did the pre-sleep data test (not sure what to call it, but making sure everything was working properly).

So, in my case, I was only taking medication that I brought in myself. They did not provide anything.

I live in a quite large Canadian city with state of the art hospitals but sleep medicine is an afterthought it appears. My 2 sleep studies were in a hospital but the first was in a long retired nurses' residence. It was dark and dingy and the washroom was down the hall. I had a female tech that time. She was very professional.

For my second study, the sleep centre had moved from the nurses' residence but the situation was little better. The hospital they were using for sleep studies was in the process of being shut down since a newer hospital was being built. The room was dingy and COLD! The washroom was shared between 2 rooms. There was a man in the adjoining room and he was "careless" in the washroom. The tech was male but professional.

Tell the Techs that you suffer from Genital Herpes and Cold Sores and that they all should use hand gloves when wiring you up and also when touching you during the study. In your medication list write that you take Acyclovir 200 mg antivirus capsule, daily.

There's been zero empirical evidence that the "terrible experience" actually took place, and many reasons to call the veracity of the story into question have been noted and discussed. It's fair to say that there isn't universal acceptance of the story being factual. Certainly if the story is true, it would have indeed been a "terrible experience", but how do you make that huge leap of faith with no evidence?

I'm curious: if my first post here was a story about how I suffered alien abduction and subsequent abuse on a UFO during my sleep study, would you consider such a story to be an actual "terrible experience", or would you perhaps like to see some more evidence?
