Not machine specific, but any version of Windows writes out desktop ini and other junk other (hidden attribute set) files depending on the media contents it sees.
You can see hidden files from the explorer windows under view by checking on the checkboxes. Your cpap machine probably picks up on those files and assumes the card got altered. it isn't erasing the card, just analyzing it. BTW there is free software out there, you can get that will read and interpret the card. If you get the Windows 8.1 then you need the ZIP file because it will not install under Windows 8 no matter how you try. The zip file installs under windows 8 by placing it in a folder that is within the zip file and you manually send a desktop shortcut to the main program. The software is pretty strange and screwy, because it is written for a healthcare provider that would keep a database of all the cards for a bunch of patients. There is a forum you can join to obtain the software but I cannot provide a link per thier rulings. (Whatever..) What I am not sure of is if it is legal to present this information to your doctor, since it is not professionally done. Even if it were the same information, deos not mean they can trust you not to alter the file tor some odd reason. Why would you/ Beats me, or to fool your doctor when your not really using the machine perhaps? Most people want to breathe, and those who are on a CPAP machine don't want to mail or drive to a healthcare provider to provide them the chip when you could have faxed or mailed it to your doctor from the comfort of your own home. But think of all the money we would be saving our government, and insurace providers! Guess they don't see it that way.

This is an old thread so my apologies for resurrecting it, but I forgot to write protect my card this morning and have discovered how to remove the offending folder:

This applies to Windows 8.1 users.

You will need the drive letter of your SD card, which you can find from the 'This PC' window, it will be listed as a Removable disc. Mine comes up as F:, yours may differ.

Open a command prompt as 'Administrator':
(Press 'Windows key and F" This brings up a side bar with 'Search' at the top. Under the word 'Search' click the down arrow and select "Everywhere" , type CMD in the search box and the CMD Icon will be top of the list. Right click this CMD icon and select 'Run as Administrator'. You will have to Answer 'YES' to the User Account Control Prompt)

In the CMD window that has now appeared:
type F: and press enter (change F for your SD card drive letter)
The Command window prompt will now say
F:\>

Type the following:
rmdir "system volume information" /S /Q
and press enter

type exit and press enter (this will close the CMD window).

Now remove your SD card from the PC and try it in your Resmed machine again. You should find the Resmed is now happy with the card.
