Custom made masks have already been tried. I believe the company is defunct because people would not pay the cost of a custom made mask. http://inspiratemedical.com/

You can basically see insurance companies as a "guild" controlling the strings to shut out alternatives and maximize their profits. It has very little to do with government and would happen with Democrats or republicans in power. The main difference with democrats and republicans? One uses christianity as a hook to get votes, the other uses "social justice". Ideally the government would regulate the insurance companies not to pull "standards" crap, but that won't happen because the government is in the insurance companies pockets.
Yes, the Republicans and Democrats jumped into the pockets of the lobbyists. There would be no lobbyists in Washington if politicians served the citizens instead of their own personal interests.

After they have been in office a year, there is no difference. They all just want to do whatever it takes to hold on to power and build personal wealth.

Is this thread still active? I am designing my own CPAP machine out of CAD for 3d printing. Anyone still working on this project please message me. Thanks :)

Last post was 2018.

You're going to 3D print a CPAP?

Let me see if we can figure this out. The thread was started 7+ years ago. The last comment was 3.5 years ago.

Hmmm?? We need to call in someone who is good with math and time.

I am thinking that adding "has some common sense" to your criteria might be a good idea as well.

As for me, I prefer not to step down from my state of the art machine.
With a thought to the cost, how about an open source CELLPHONE?
PRIORITIES, people!
Health is not negotiable.

An open-source machine is certainly possible. I can envision one based on OSCAR that prioritizes the patient, guarantees complete access to your data and settings, and guards your privacy at the same time. The packaging probably wouldn't be as slick as Resmed's, but who cares? It's not like we show off pictures of our CPAPs. And any time we think something is impossible some 15-year-old kid in Sweden or Malaysia goes and does it.

You can get an open-source phone, by the way.

But it's not 3D-printed.

Not everything has to be 3d printed.
Off-the-shelf components are common in product development.
I get some of my best ideas in hardware stores,
especially the hole in the wall--been there forever places.
Aesthetics comes once the "thing" works; and marketing takes over.

Not only is this thread long dead, nobody ever worked on this project.

All this topic ever was, was a couple people (who didn't understand the scope of such a project) saying, we should build an open source CPAP. Absolutely nothing was done, there never was a project.

Yeah, but better than live bunnies.
Who could sleep with all that passionate squeaking all night long?
