Dori,
I am absolutely appalled at all the issues you and Mike have dealt with. It is a testament to how people (in general) just do not give a crap about doing right anymore.
You get on them HARD today. I wish I could help you kick their butts. Please know I'm with you in spirit (as are many others from here). Just think of us as angels on your shoulder, yelling with you!

Dori,
I don 't know if this rehab is part of a national chain, but if it is, going to their corporate offices, over their heads, scares them to death! My MIL is in a Kindred facility & I've gone to corporate about a couple of issues & as I've said before, they are really scared of me. I do get the royal treatment for her on some issues, but still dealing with an issue for her now too personal to post.
Just know as Madalot says, we are there with you in spirit, sitting on your shoulder cheering you on. Hang in there, prayers for you & Mike.

I never knew how empowered one can feel when they know they're right and the other side has run out of excuses. I was there at 9:30AM and by 11AM I had met with everyone that was really in charge. I won't go into all the excuses I got from the floor staff, too boring, but the one I loved was the nurse who was in charge of his machine. The Administrator was right there with me when her excuse for not turning on the machine at 9PM as instructed was.......are you ready??? "The humidifier was only half full so I was afraid to turn the machine on with so little water and afraid he wouldn't get enough humidity for the entire night". I reminded her that Mike only uses passover mode, no humidity, so water lasts a long time, which is also written on my instructions and she admitted that "I didn't understand what that meant". The Admin looked at my instructions on the wall and reminded her that my phone # was right there and why didn't she call me with any questions. All hell broke out after that with every department coming in to see me and watching Mike "perform" his walking, sitting, standing, dressing, toilet, etc. Our Dr even came in from his office to examine Mike and it was decided that discharge will be Friday with all visiting nurses, daily aides, physical therapists, etc in place. I'm too tired for the "happy dance" right now but I'll let you all know when to start the music!! Thanks to all of you for your lovely words of encouragement and letting me vent my frustrations when I know you're all dealing with your own stuff. God Bless you all!

Such stupidity is intolerable! It is more that stupidity when a person is in their care. It is negligent. I am appalled but I know this kind of stuff happens.
I would like to have been a fly on the wall to see this morning's session Dori. Good for you, for getting after them. I cannot believe that they didn't call you about the water situation---when your phone number was right in front of them!!!
The really good part of today is that Mike will be home in a couple of days and you will be able to take care of his machine and mask the right way. You will be able to see what the home care that comes in is doing as well.
The other really good part is that you will be able to rest more! You won't need to be running over to the rehab to do their jobs for them!!!

Good for you Dori!
Good the Mike is coming home too!
I am glad it all worked out.
I was worried for you. There have been a couple is incidences here the home has gotten a restraining order against people who ask too many questions, rattled too many bars.

I'm just catching up on all of this. What a freakin' roller coaster ride! I'm glad he is going to be discharged soon and absolutely incensed at the incompetence and negligence of the medical staff. Mike is SO lucky to have an advocate like you, Dori!

It's good he is on the schedule to come home in a couple of days. I was getting ready to book a flight to come see you and go bitch slap those idiots. This stuff isn't rocket science..makes me wonder where they got their education.
Just goes to show that education isn't worth a crap if a person doesn't have any common sense to use it.
Anyway....glad we sorted out the ResScan issue..when all else fails...always reboot the computer..it's amazing what it will fix.
Sending you a big hug and a kiss for you to give to Mike for me.

Dori,
Finally the light at the end of the tunnel is shining! I will keep praying for you & Mike. Glad you got the upper hand on that stupid nurse. My Hubby's grandpa had a phrase for people like her - 'educated idiots' that is to say these folks lack common sense! So glad you are going to get him home.

I wasn't worried about a restraining order but I think they were worried about a law suit. When my daughter was visiting I know she mentioned in conversation with the Unit Manager that she was a lawyer. What makes me feel better about this horrific experience is that I think my bringing the incompetence and outright lying to the Administrators might benefit the patients that are still struggling there now and those who come in the future. I'm sure there are going to be some important administrative changes made and closer followup of the staff protocol. I'd like them to review their hiring qualifications too. I can dream can't I??

DoriC wrote: I remembered from my working days that they used heel guards in hospitals so I was able to "request" them for Mike at rehab. I also always make sure to loosen up the blankets at his feet. But there's so much we don't know, caretakers need advanced degrees. I hope your Dad heals quickly with your loving care. It seems at this rehab they're very concerned about skin breakdown and examine his body carefully when they help him undress and automatically use the heel guards at night. Thanks to all for your good thoughts!
Dori, I am SO glad you DID think of that. Mike has had enough issues with healing, without adding pressure sores.
Like everyone else, I wanted to scream when I read about the ignorance in relation to Mike's mask. THEY were taking the mask off, and claiming Mike did it? Because they didn't know how to put it back on? Aie-yi-yi!
My Dad's right foot has healed, and it looks like the left foot is on its way. I'm about to go get my shoes on, and go change his bandages!
Sending all good thoughts your way!

Dori, I haven't watched this thread lately; just came back to it now... what a ride you have had with all of this! I can't believe the stupidity of some of those caregivers! So happy that you will have Mike back in a few more days, and you won't have deal with this anymore. You get some rest now, so you can do your happy dance!
