How is it without the side strap covers? Does it feel weird, or relatively normal for a mask *smile*? Just curious, since I really like this idea, but side strap covers tend to make a mask slide around on my beard, whereas the silicone side straps are pretty stable for me. Being an "active" side sleeper, I move around a lot, and a mask that slides around is harder to deal with for me, leak-wise.

I don't know..didn't try it all night without the covers as I always used the covers just for comfort but in this situation I also used them to keep the semi rigid thing close to the silicone strap.
I don't think it would feel any different especially if you route the semi rigid thing so that the long part goes to the outside of the strap so that it doesn't touch the face. See the picture how I did that...in one hole and out the other hole so that the bulk of the plastic is on the outside...it's a bit more "fixed" when routing it that way. I initially tried using just one hole and it would slide out pretty easily until I taped it down.

Well...I take it back..I did briefly try it without the covers but with tape in place to get a quick feel for overall sensation to see if I noticed the bulk at the nasal pillow to silicone attachment level...and I didn't notice anything or adding the bulk of the strap cover would probably have made it worse.
I think if a person would just "feed" that plastic part through the 2 holes so that the bulk of the plastic is on the outside of the strap and tape it down...and one layer of scotch "tape" is quite sufficient as the plastic thing is easy to manage...that it wouldn't be even noticeable.
It adds very little bulk to have it connected at the holes/slots and as long as it is right up against the nasal pillow itself and not an inch away...I don't think it will be an issue. Get it attached too far way and it will be like having a knot or something against the cheek.

Only way to know for sure...try it.
I have already disassembled mine or I would test it again...I take it you don't have the P10 so you can test it and for you to test it would involve another purchase??
Anyone else who is doing this want to offer an opinion?
I could redo it if we can't get someone else's opinion with my paying specific attention to how it feels without side strap covers.

Yes, you're right, I don't have a P10 at the moment. One is being shipped to me today, but that won't be here for a couple of days. I can return it if things don't work out, so no big thing. Just wondered if you might have noticed *smile*.

Normally when I test things out...I will notice a problem initially and pay attention to it. Since I don't remember anything out of the norm with the brief test without the strap covers I would tend to think it was just something that wasn't present as an issue...meaning I didn't even notice it.
I didn't think about it because I knew when I started the strap covers would be used both for my own comfort (I don't like the silicone on my skin) and the fact I would be using them to keep the plastic thing close to the strap.
So I am going to assume it was a non issue since I didn't notice anything poking me or something like that.

YMMV of course but I don't think that it will be an issue as long as those little plastic things from the P10 are held real close to the side strap.

So...I just tested my concoction without any strap covers. For me I didn't notice any real difference. That little bend in the semi rigid plastic where the stretchy headgear of the P10 has the slit to attach to...it is no more noticeable without the cover than with the cover..be it with the stretchy cover or the side strap covers that I used. It's not like the stretchy cover is all that padded because it isn't.
Just make sure that the Swift FX silicone end of the strap where it attaches to the P10 is as close to the nasal pillow as possible though.
The semi rigid plastic thing where the bend is ....I never notice it...don't feel it at all...not with either headgear. It flexes with the least little pressure anyway.

P10 is a great fit however the it requires more maintenance cleaning and the exhaust holes get clogged easily with minimal moisture. As soon as I get a new one I will be punching holes in the old one to experiment. better than the swift LT but I like the swivel at the mask and the ventilation. The pillow fit is way better with the P10. wish I could have the best of both worlds.

I love this mask. I didnt think anything could top the swift for me but this mask did.

And I haven't washed or cleaned out the pillow holder part of the mask at all since I started using it...about 6 to 8 weeks now. Not once have I cleaned that part of the mask. I just don't see the need.

I remove the nasal pillow from the plastic shell and wash it about once a week when I think about it...never more often.

I wonder if someone is having the vents get clogged if they are having much of a condensation problem in the shell where the vent holes are??? If so then I would be more apt to fix that problem then I would be to change the vent holes size or make more holes... which is never advised.

My two cents, for what its worth, is I love the AirFit, but I hope they keep the one size headgear, since it works well for me (I find it stretches to accommodate easily), and if I had my druthers, they would make a version that had normal venting, like the Pilairo or something else. The diffused venting doesn't make a difference to me and the normal venting makes me feel more secure. I know, I probably just said blasphemy (please forgive me

I also like the "joint swivel" on the Pilairo (I'm not sure what it's called). Maybe they could include that in a version as well. But no matter, I will continue to use the wonderful AirFit--I love it.

It's interesting to see the comparisons and preferences being stated. Things that I like on one above the other, someone else likes the opposite - even to the point of being a deal breaker. Shows why there are so many different masks out there.

For me, I am went with the Pilairo Q over the AirFit. But I did like the longer, lighter, more flexible hose on the Airfit over the swivel on the Pilairo.

Maybe ResMed will take their cue from F&P and add a second set of adjustable headgear. F&P did that for the Pilairo Q. It now has a set of adjustable headgear. I use the old style as it works for me and I prefer the single strap over the multiple straps on the adjustable version.

I'm sure they use the swivel on the Pilairo to direct the vent air as needed, whereas on the Airfit, no swivel is needed since there is no one-direction concentrated venting. Hey, I just figured that out.

For me, I use the diffuser filter on the Pilairo Q and find that I have to almost touch the filter before I can feel any air. That would eliminate the need to direct it anywhere, so I probably would have never figured that out. If someone is not using the filter, then they'd need to direct it.

When I was testing masks, the Pilairo had a strong vent. I tried sleeping facing my wife and she complained that she was going to get an earache from it. With the Q version, she doesn't notice any air at all.
