Wait! You really wouldn't want to do that. To physically dislodge the "sludge" might mean that he couldn't come here anymore; and if you read some of his knowledgeable posts (along with the other helpful things he does, that would be a real shame!
well, there's
good sludge, and there's
bad sludge
Ya know, there is some good and some bad in all of us.

My point on the cost of a tank is to not be too scared of doing some experimentation. If you ruin one, you're not out that much money. Also, if it's "worn out," go ahead and get a new one. You won't have to replace it that often. And buying a spare one is a fairly cheap insurance policy for having to do without, as well as for allowing you to swap and let it dry out for a while.

it's not a preventative measure, it's a remediation measure.
Ummmm.... yeah. The salt is only used for cleaning. You're
not supposed to be trying to emulate a fresh ocean breeze by using salty water while using your xPAP. That wouldn't be advisable at all. (Please tell me you were being facetious.)
apropos of that, there are salt mines in russia, I believe, where people with lung problems pay to go down and breath the salty air.

I have used your method many time since you first posted it. It works wonderfully just the way you originally wrote it.
I don't feel the need to alter it in any way. If something works I don't fix it.
Thanks for sharing your ideas with us. It was brilliant

I'm kind of at a loss to figure out how a little "biofilm" could possibly harm a person.
After about 7 years (early 2012), I took my original Legacy humidifier tank apart to actually "clean" it, even though it looked very clean. All I used was some dishwater (Dawn dish soap) and a soft sponge. Very simple. Still looks very clean.
Since I started therapy, I've dumped and rinsed my HH tank (with hot tap water) a few times a year before refilling with distilled. But, I only use "passover" (cool) humidification and not heated.

A compliment of the highest order. Thank you!
I strive to avoid the Dunning-Kruger effect. (Google is your friend.)
Unfortunately, if I believe I've avoided it, does that mean I'm actually embodying it?

I'm thinking that what would normally be an insult, is actually a compliment coming from the source it came from
re Dunning-Kruger... don't you know that 92% of the people believe they're above average!!!?!

Question: What percentage of those 92% are math majors?

You are supposed to empty the tank, and refill it, Everclear will kill brain cells if you leave it in the HH Tank. Which would explain posting on a 2 year old dead post. Jim
