Thank you so much for sharing this, DoriC.
I was trying to stay away from this thread, but this comment just struck a cord with me...
All hoseheads that know what it is to struggle to get sleep: does this not make you sad, appeal to a common compassion for the fellow suffering and make us all want to provide an environment where people (all people) feel comfortable seeking help?

I also thank DoriC for sharing although unfortunately, it confirms the fears I have expressed on this forum about new posters being reluctant to post because they were too intimidated to do so.
bavinvk, I applaud you for appealing for civility and hope to god, you stick around.

No. And, it already is.
People who come to this forum get responses proportionate to the way they approach it and seek help or information.
If they come here with a chip on their shoulder and seem sarcastic and demanding, they get a like response.
If they come here and express common courtesy with their questions, they will get an appropriate response.
It's just that simple........

I dont mind negative posters. It happens everywhere. It just makes me appreciate the helpful people that much more.

Well, "IMHO", there's only one (give or take) solution here:
Divide the Forum into Sections and Add Moderators!!

Hmm, I thought since I wasn't using it as a noun in my sentence, that not capitalizing the word is correct grammar.

Sorry, Gomer, I don't do guilt.
This forum atmosphere provides an acid test (or maybe Trial By Fire) for a whole host of activities. "IMHO", "unprovoked attacks" on "newbies" are very rare (position therapy with an oximeter is being touted as "The Rule", but even there, SN apologized (and in my (or any, for that matter) religion, contrition wipes the slate clean, SWO45 is an idiot, and BS is well, BS (and if people think BS has faults (and Lord (note capital "L") knows
I have plenty of faults), then the REAL fault is those who cannot accept her (us) for what she (we) is (are).
Anyway, The Gomer Philosophy really falls short where "Negative & Critical" posting may have "justification" (OK, maybe that should be "never", but again, there are other forums that do that). These areas may include:
- Talking about DMEs that charge for "service" but provide no service.
- "Expert" posters that post the first thing on Google when replying to a question.
- Most OT posts (hey, post whatever you want, just don't be surprised at the responses you get).
- Diagnosis and/or follow-up care that is poor.
- A subset of posters that submit responses designed to make them Look Smart but are wrong ("You need adaptive servo ventilation. Don't worry that it might cost you $5000 out of pocket." "You need CO2 rebreathing. Don't worry that you might suffocate."
- One Post Wonders that get a ton of help but never offer a "Thank You" (although admittedly, those who help can look to Matt 6:1-18).
- Posters who get a ton of help but are still not satisfied (my favorite was "Well that was delightful", although SWA17 is certainly right up there).
- Salesmen who come here under the guise of "helping" but simply are looking for free advertising.
- Posters who create long lists of complaints.

Earlier in this discussion I posted..."Let's face it...this was a dumb post to begin with...it's only purpose was to stir up controversy." 49er and several others jumped all over me for my comment. I stand by what I said

Den, I know what you mean about the sarcastic questions from deniers but what I'm seeing more of is new people who are asking appropriate questions in a courteous manner even though overwhelmed and struggling so maybe not so articulate, and still getting 2x4 treatment long before it's necessary(if ever).

When you are new it is hard to know how to ask the question in the right way to get the information you really need. I think the thread that started all of this was the man asking about the Oxymeter. He stated that his doctor told him to stop wearing the mask and use the Oxymeter. The information he needed was how to be able to wear his mask without tearing up his face. He did get some excellent tips then for some reason some decided he wasn't trying to follow their advice. He ended up getting very frustrated with the responses he got. He was only trying to follow his doctor's orders. He was not a troll. He just needed help. If he hadn't been questioning his doctor's advice he never would have posted here asking for help.

How many ways can one say the word, "exactly"?
IMO it's time to end this thread and allow the tough love people time to form their own site... or, in the alternative, realize what the majority of members want to see here... helpful suggestions minus the negativity. Again, a troll will show him/her self rather quickly.
Happy New Year everyone and good health to All!
