Well after several nites of using the F & P Simplus I am not sure if I am going to keep it. It really fits nice on my face but I have to crank her down real tight to prevent leaks so it becomes uncomfortable. My pressure is set on 11. Last nite I wore my trusty Mirage Quattro and it felt much better. Also, it sure takes a lot of pressure for my CPAP machine to smartstart with the Simplus. The Quattro takes very little pressure for it to fire up. Does anyone know why the Simplus takes more pressure than the Quattro? I thought my CPAP machine SmartStart quit working the first nite with the Simplus, had to press the start/stop button after the several times I got up. The next day after making sure the CPAP SmartStart was turned on I tested the Simplus. I had to breathe real hard into the mask to get my CPAP machine to start.
A couple things for starting with smartstart for FFM's are the vents in the mask, and the anti asphyxia valve being open. If I use the preheat feature, my machine will start up when I have the mask over my face but not on. If I don't use the preheat, I might have to cover the vents and air flap (AAV) and take a quick breath to get the air moving in the hose.
So let me get this straight then, it appears from all these posts (the photos are pretty hard to tell) that the Simplus is not designed with a double seal like the ResMeds (Quattro line) or the PR Amara, etc., but has a single-wall silicone construction, and the seal simply curves under where it meets the face. Correct? This is kind of like the seal on the single-wall PR FullLife FFM?
Is the Simplus seal where it meets the face flat, or is it more rounded/curved like the Quattros?
Has anyone noticed whether the 'roll fit' design at the nose bridge on the Simplus is actually helpful? Does it prevent nasal pressure sores?
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure this would be worth ditching my Quattros/Amara, etc.
It does look like a great, low profile design and so easy to clean too. Plus cushions are much, much cheaper than others.

Yes, it is single walled and curves under. It's kind of like they've incorporated the two seals into one
It is rounded like the Quattro.
The roll fit seems less likely to cause nose bridge sores, the area around the nose bridge is designed a little differently than the Quattro, a little more open. I find it seals well around the nose bridge but doesn't leave any redness as the Quattro is prone to.
For me, it's pretty close to the Quattro, but I would give the Simplus a little higher mark for comfort. A much higher mark for affordability.
See my original assessment here:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=93945&p=871798#p871798 . I'm still wearing it.
Of course, YMMV.

I have been using the Simplus for 2 weeks now, for me it seems to fit very well however......I do get redness and soreness on the bridge of my nose, that is managed with a light strip of cloth and taped on with paper tape...
But the last few nights I have been also getting alot of redness everywhere around the seal, this redness does not disappear throughout the day and has me concerned, allergy?? pressure?? I do need to tighten the mask quite tight as my pressure is 13 and I get leaks otherwise.
anyone else have this issue?

Less likely to cause nose sores because there's no hard plastic to flatten the seal completely and press the plastic against part of the nose. I have more of an English nose and it's the best mask I've used so far.

Our DME told me today that they weren't going to supply this mask and would only keep 2 or 3 Resmed FF styles in stock so they will be able to supply the QuattroFF or UltraMirageFF that we use as well as a few other models. Their goal is to only supply Respironics. I'm going to check with Medicare to see what the rules are for contracted DMEs. In the meantime I may buy the Simplus from our host for their good price. Thanks for the reviews.

Charles,
This is a quote from my S8 clinicians manual:
"A patient must not use SmartStart if they are using a mask with an antiasphyxia
valve, such as the Mirage Full Face Mask."

Is there any other DMEs in town? Maybe switch your DME. Is that allowed with Medicare?

Well, I have been using the SmartStart for several years now on a S8 Ellite II with a Mirage Quattro FFM. I probably use it two to three times during the nite when I get up. I am in the middle of swapping to another Sleep Disorders Center and have an appointment with the new one next month. I probably will have to have another sleep study done because my wife says occasionally I am snoring under my mask. My last sleep study was in 2004. I hope the Doc will prescribe me a S9 AutoSet. I will ask the center about using the SmartStart.

Today I returned the Simplus to my DME and got me a ResMed Quattro Air. It is a more comfortable fit than the Simplus. I tested it out with my CPAP in test mode and no leaks noted. Time will tell on how it goes tonite and I get a full report from the MRS in the morning. Will post on how goes it.

Well, last nite my wife said the mask leaked. When I woke up a couple of times there wasn't any leaks. Did a pressure test this morning and there was no leaks. The Quattro Air was real comfortable thru the nite. Tonite my wife is going to record if me if she hears any more leaks. Will let the sleep doc listen and see what he thinks.

both the Simplus and the Quattro AIr are really nice masks... some of us had leak issues with the narrow profile of the Quattro Air frame.
glad to hear you think you have found a mask that works for you.

I started out with F&P Piliaro and liked it but I couldn't keep my mouth closed and had dry mouth. My DME exchanged my Piliaro for a Quattro FX Full Face and I felt it was comfortable, but could not keep it from leaking and air blowing in my face, so I bought a F & P Simplus and like it best. It is comfortable, doesn't feel flimsy and have no leaks or air blowing in my face. It is easy to clean and the reassembly is easier than with the Quattro FX. I'll keep the Quattro as a backup only.

F&P Simplus fits me much better than Quatro or AMARA Gel. I no longer have rubbed raw nose bridge and I get good cheek seal with much less strap pressure. I think the nose design does work. I also agree that it is much easier to clean. But, each combination of machine pressures, facial features and mask are unique.
