Mark, no need to defend yourself or your work -- to most of us here you are a real hero.

Totally agree Kaiasgram. My god Mark, you offer software that people would normally have to pay big time for.kaiasgram wrote:Mark, no need to defend yourself or your work -- to most of us here you are a real hero.
Jedimark - I am another one of the many users of SleepyHead that is very happy with it. I find it very user friendly and good clear graphics - I prefer it to Rescan (although I do use both) it is so easy to read. I really appreciate your hard work knowing it is all for the sake of helping us CPAP users - especially when most of the manufacturers do everything within their power to keep software from the user. So don't forget at times like this that 99.9999% of those of us who use SleepyHead are very thankful to you for kindly sharing it with us. I am very sorry to hear about your other stress/health issues though and hope you manage to find some help for it all. Many thanks.jedimark wrote:AVI, thanks.. You won't kill my spirit with that pathetic trollful attempt. I don't write SleepyHead for you, or the ASAA, nor am I interested in venture capitalists money.avi123 wrote:Whatever credit that you had there at the ASAA website with your Sleepy Head you lost with your lousy business approach. Is this the way that you want to promote your baby? Also, whoever read your above post to me would stay away from your SH in favor of ResScan. Resmed could be trusted business- wise while you don't.
Jedimark, your SH program is full of errors. It's been more than three years in which time you could not get all the bugs out. Apparently, you don't know how. The program may need more than a couple of million dollars to have professionals take care of it. But given your nasty personality as you have demonstrated in your above post to me, no U.S. venture capitalists will give you the money. I have experience in this field. So your best bet is to remove yourself from the SH and have another person take over. Otherwise, sooner or later, someone else will replace the SH with a better program, and you'll be staying in Bundaberg for good.[/b]
And I'm quite happy in Bundaberg thanks, it's the best town in Australia!
SleepyHead is open and free, because I believe it was the right choice... anyone willing, who is more capable than me is quite welcome to take the torch, that's the beauty of open source. In fact, if someone else comes up with a better program that fills the need better than I can, I'd be delighted, because I know we damn well need it.
I keep working on SleepyHead for inquisitive people who want to investigate deeper the data provided by their CPAP machines, so they can have a better understanding of their condition.. Me included.
SleepyHead has quite it's share of errors, because I had a lot on my plate up till now that has prevented me from fixing them. I'm quite proud of what I've managed to accomplish despite my health problems. Arrogant jerks like you are what motivate me to try even harder, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Thankfully I've had a lot of help recently, and things are getting much better.
So thanks again for boosting my motivation!

This highlights the difference between having software function correctly and efficiently, and having it be fail safe. At least that's how I remember the discussion at a software quality conference years ago. The goal for a developer is to not only have the software work correctly, but also have it function so that if there is a major failure while it is processing data, the critical outputs immediately go into a state that puts the equipment into a safe stop mode. Seldom easy to accomplish. Fortunately, for a program like Sleepyhead failure while processing has no dire consequences, although a processing error should create output that is so obviously wrong that the user will know not to rely on it.hueyville wrote:I downloaded a beta version of an upgrade for one of my CNC routers which promplty sent the carraige down the gantry way so fast it broke the limit switches. That cost me 300 bucks in parts and two days down time for a $65,000 machine. Did I whine or cry? Nope. I know what beta means. Anyone who downloads a free beta trial has no cause for complaint.
Lol.. I remember that one.. The S9 has some quirks with sessions having different starting timestamps that threw me off, and the STR.edf summary file import was throwing in spurious sessions, plus an even sillier bug with incorrect filenames... All caused the same problem.. each time I fixed one I thought I had nailed it. I'm surprised I still have any hair after that one, but it's funny now I look back on it.msla wrote: Amen. The .09 SH beta would add a second download of data so eventually I was sleeping 25,26, 27, 28 or more hours per day.
week 1
week 1 week2
week1 week2 week 3
which gave me 3x hours/week 1, 2x hours/week2 and 1x hours/week3
In 3 weeks I got 6 weeks worth of sleep. I just ignored it and finally the new version was able to be downloaded. Some days I wish I got that much sleep
I agree, SU. I see, in Avi, someone who probably excelled at his career by being both analytical and a contrarian. While that combination of traits doesn't always make for the most affable mannerisms in a social setting, the world would be lost utterly without those "natural dissenters" IMHO. Avi might be a contrarian. And his mannerisms might not make sense to many here. But in this respect he's just like the rest of us: he's a human, with feelings and shortcomings, who happens to be saddled with CPAP.SleepingUgly wrote: I don't see "sides" in this. I don't agree with much of what Avi writes (including about me!), but I also don't agree with those who think he has malicious intent.
I'm curious, why is that?jedimark wrote:I'd still buy a S9 AutoSet when my PRS1 Auto dies though.
