The whole world has an extreme dislike for Americans, we butt in at every opportunity, professing to know best, but times shows we seldom do. The dislike doesn't deture them with their hands out for American $$$, we provide dollars we don't have and get hate and criticism in return.
Americans provide the best deal in the world, go to war against us, we will rebuild your economy and country and add you to our list of favored trade partners. Jim

If you think pointing out stupidity and character flaws equals extreme dislike you need to stay out of political threads and keep away from anyone who might critique you.
This doesn't give me any warm fuzzy feelings.

As an American now living in Quebec, I can only say that Quebec is one messed up province. Taxes are 15%, $200 a head per year for the "free health care", a doctor shortage (took us only 2.5 years to get a family doctor), long wait times, crumbling roads and bridges, scandals galore (Charbonneau Commission, multiple Mayors of Montreal getting arrested and/or resigning in disgrace), and language police (OQLF which measures the height of letters and freaks out over the word "pasta.") You still need to buy supplemental insurance to cover mental health, vision and dental anyway (plus lots of other stuff like for instance, sleep studies;) Yep, I'm covered by the RAMQ and I had to pay out of my pocket for my sleep study. My supplemental insurance will cover $1000 for a CPAP. Not free, not paid for by the gov.
There's no Scott toilet paper here (1000 sheets a roll compared to the most I've found here which is about 320 sheets a roll if you can find it and it costs 3x as much) and there is a serious lack of choice in general. Also, it's like going back in time about 10 - 15 years depending on where you came from in the States. And I came from Texas.
Not loving Quebec, desole!

I do not agree with the poster who said that the US is stupid or that its lack of health care for all is a character flaw. I do not agree that those were even adequate descriptions of the initial attack on US politics.

One person. yes ONLY one person made a comment about USA you don't like and now 'Canadians' the whole Canadian population dislikes USA of are jealous or whatever. Let me tell you that I have a lot of American friends and I have nothing against American people, please think a bit before arriving to such kind of conclusions.
I really don't understand your logics.
And to the one who doesn't like what is getting in Quebec my question is Why you don't return to Texas ? Stop torturing yourself, you will be able to have your toilet paper 10000000000 sheets.

Well, shouldn't you also take the Canadian commenter to task for saying that America is "stupid" for not having universal health care? Is that not also arriving to a quick and prejudiced conclusion? (This is the comment that sparked the matter in the first place and I feel that the comment was meant to be incendiary.)
The toilet paper is one example of how the people of Quebec are paying hundreds of dollars more for sub-quality offerings.
"you will be able to have your toilet paper 10000000000 sheets".
You're exaggerating here and doing exactly what you criticized Stormynights for doing.

I come to give my brilliant insights about cpap therapy to the proletariat. I don't need help because with my brilliant insight I got my cpap therapy working 100% after the first night. Yes it is painful to watch you guys drag your knuckles along the ground but I swallow that and reach down and help because it gets me Karma brownie points.
I will now get back into my UFO and do some experiments on local knuckle draggers.

Amazing in a forum filled with the sick and the crippled, someone, well one person, loves to just keep rehashing the same old dog of a story over and over even though the argument was lost months and months ago. That's called an abnormal obsession.
Today I was at the auto body shop. It's a relatively big shop and has been in business since the 1920s or something. It's one of Nationwide's 'certified' repair shops. While sitting there an insurance agent comes in and starts talking to the receptionist about retirement accounts for the business and work comp coverage. She tells him they have a retirement plan but the owner doesn't match the contributions. She then said he stopped offering health insurance a long time ago. Boss was out ...playing golf.
Well you know how much an auto body shop pulls in? A sh-tload of money, that's how much. One of the best rackets in town to be in. The scratches and miniscule ding on my door are going to set my insurance company back +$2,500, and me another $500. Every thing, down to the last millimeter of work, is billed. Even removing and replacing door handles is billed out.
And not a dime does the jerk owner spend to insure his workers! He's too busy on the golf course apparently!
Thank Gd for the ACA or Obamacare or whatever you want to call it! Because of it, those employees will finally regain their coverage.
Millions and millions of Americans work for employers like this one, who won't invest in the health of their workers who may even do backbreaking labor for them day in and day out. Or the other countless millions of Americans who are stuck in horrible, dead end jobs they hate, that crush the very spirit from their bodies, just because they so desperately need the health insurance that job gives them and their families.
Want to whine and cry because you may have to endure, gasp, a slightly longer wait at the doctor, or some other non-life threatening inconvenience? Well you get no pity from me.
For the millions and millions of Americans who will now finally be able to have health insurance, this new law will be a life saver and finally give them the ability to tell bosses like the one at that body shop that goodbye, they are going to go and find themselves a better job! -- And perhaps that's why some employers don't like it and are now bitching about it. Because they know it will finally unshackle their workers from their desks.

Well, that surely explains it all!
Before Obamacare was even thought of, I applied for private insurance because do contract work.
I was classified HIGH RISK because a few months prior had a surgical procedure to CORRECT acid reflux.
I was told that had I KEPT the reflux, I would not be high risk, even though acid reflux causes CANCER!
So, I was offered a plan that Illinois has called I-CHiP which is administered by Blue Cross. It is pretty much a BCBS PPO plan. Only, it is very expensive.
The bad thing is that the premium goes up about every 6 months.
About a month ago, I receive a letter, stating that.......according to the provisions of "The Affordable Care Act" and "as provided by law" my premiums are to go up
by 150%! Seeing that I already pay about $550 per month, That makes MY "Affordable Care" $825 per month!
So, I call BCBS and I am told that my plan is going up by that amount because it will not exist any longer! So, basically what I will be placed into, unless I choose something
different, is the most expensive possible coverage they can find.
And supposedly, I have to wait until October, when I will actually have "Affordable" options to chose from, and per the provisions, none of my "pre-existing" conditions will be held against me.
We shall see.

Chunky, Glen4Cindy, and Isadora: Thanks for explaining things to the Faux News crowd. Even you Goof
Choker: You forgot the OT: tag. Congratulations, this puts you in 6th place on my Foe list.
Stormy and Space Oddity: The Canucks have quite a few industries, a lot of them are in IT and aerospace. As for the Hollywood comment, Toronto is one of the go-to cities for films and TV shows that either can't afford or don't want to pay the extortion that New York and Los Angeles charge for the use of "their trademark images".
Isadora: With any luck the Frenchies will succeed in seceding from the Dominion one of these days. As far as I can tell, none of the other provinces want them.
Anyone else reading this thread: Feel free to look at my rant in the
OT: Government involvement in healthcare can work! thread.

Well surprise -- but you have that plan because of one of the earliest benefits of the ACA, to have high risk plans for people too sick to even be insurable. Without the ACA you would be left with no private insurer wanting to insure you, like millions of other Americans with pre-existing conditions. Illinois has actually had a high risk plan for uninsurable people for years and yes, it's costly, but if you have cancer, it's the difference between life and death. (It was mandated by the state government, so is that State Obamacare?). Obamacare opened up such high risk plans, nationally, as a concession to a plan floated by Sen. John McCain who wanted such high risk plans.
On October 1 when the exchanges open, you will be able to buy an individual policy in a community 'risk pool' with everyone, no longer just extremely sick people as you are now. So your monthly premium should go down. Under the ACA, the only factors to consider an individual's monthly premium is his age and whether or not he smokes. Your ailments do not affect your personal premium. So you should pay no more than other people in your geographic area of the same age.
And if you are lower income you may qualify for additional subsidies on the premium costs.
